UPDATE: It pains me to write this review and I really contemplated writing it for awhile. But 5 Brothers came across the bottom of my Yelp and it reminded me that indeed this needs to be said. A few months ago, my husband and I were in Patchogue during the morning, around 8:45 to be exact. I mentioned to him that I believe 5 Brothers opened early and served breakfast so maybe we can get some chicken and waffles. We love the food here. Googled it, they open at 9am. Perfect! We waited until like 9:03 and gave them a ring. No answer. Ok they're setting up let's give them a few more minutes. 9:10 still no answer. We decided to take a drive past there instead since we were close and metal doors were still down at around 9:14. We were disappointed and honestly annoyed because I firmly believe a business should abide by their listed hours. If you open at 9, arrive at your business at least 30-60 minutes before opening time to ensure everything is on and ready to go. Whatever. That's not even the worst part. We decide to drive home and stopped at a deli for breakfast sandwiches about 15 min away from 5 Brothers. We ordered and were waiting for our food at the deli when my cell phone rings. I answer and it's an employee from 5 Brothers asking me if I called earlier. They called me back from seeing my number on their caller ID. Weird but ok. I tell him that we had wanted to order food but couldn't keep waiting for them to open so headed back towards home. He kept trying to convince me to drive back and order food from there. I explained that i was already at a deli 15 min away and would not be ordering. He wouldn't stop talking and kept trying to convince me to go back. Wth? I hung up mid sentence. Rude maybe but he literally wouldn't even let me talk. He then continued to call my phone 9 more times. NINE!! Psycho dialed me. Finally my husband had to answer and ram him to knock it off and stop calling me. We had food now and were NOT going back. Now we're NEVER going back. Which is unfortunate because the food is so good. But hell no. That was INSANE! I'm not sure which brother it was that called me, but that was unacceptable and psychotic. So again, this is a late review, but needed to be said. Smh.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: Two years later and still delicious! Brought my husband here for the first time and he fell in love with the chicken. Ordered tenders with 2 waffles, fries and onion rings. Waffles tasty, fluffy and soft. Fries are curly and seasoned. Pretty good. Onion rings were kind of bland. Should have asked for more syrup as one per waffle is definitely not enough. Good thing I had more at home. However, I wouldn't take off a star for this. Just be sure to ask for extra syrup. Ordered a couple coffees as well. Not strong but decent. Always friendly service. Always clean. They do rush you a little when you're there looking at the menu. Grab a printed menu and step away from counter to take your time. We will definitely be back. I did take one star off for the above mentioned things... bland onion rings, not enough syrup, rushed service and parking situation sucks. Almost got hit backing out of parking spot onto 112 even after waiting and waiting for an opening in traffic. Chicken and waffles always on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've passed this place many times and had always meant to check it out because, well, who doesn't like fried chicken and waffles?
Parking is tight, and people usually just park on the shoulder of 112. There's quite a bit of space inside, and the first thing you'll notice is that there's no place to sit and eat. It's nice and clean, well staffed, and the guys are quite friendly and personable. They talked to us while waiting, and answered questions freely. They seemed like they really liked working there and were proud of it.
This is strictly a carry-out place, but they take catering orders as well. They have many different-sized packages of chicken with waffles and a nice selection of sides are available, with no order being too small or too large (one of the guys told us about a 1200-piece catering order that took them 4 hours to prepare). We could not get home fast enough so that we could eat, the aroma drove us nuts on the drive home, I was feeling a little road rage and I wasn't even driving. Their cole slaw is on point, mildly seasoned at first, then the tangy vinegary flavor just blooms. It's probably one of the best I've had. The waffles are nice and fluffy with just the right amount of crispiness around the edges, and the sweet potato fries didn't seem like the usual stuff you get from chain restaurants. The chicken...what can I say except that when the chicken skin is perfectly done with the right amount of seasoning, not too salty or peppery, and has the right amount of crunch, the chicken underneath has got to be good, and it was. We ordered 6 pieces with 2 waffles and 2 sides, for well under $20, and closer to $15. Our order had dark meat (thighs with backs, drumsticks, and wings), but that's what I like anyway. If you prefer white meat, you might want to request it.
One important thing I noticed was that they didn't have stuff ready under warmers or staging racks. They cooked and prepared food as it was ordered, and I like that.
They also have other items on the menu from burgers to crabcakes to fried clams to quesadillas to fajitas, you'll want to come back and try the other stuff because the chicken is so good. If they had more parking and seating, a lot of places around would be in trouble. Can't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSince we happen to be down in Patchogue and wanted something quick we decided to stop for the greatest fried chicken in the entire world.
Is it the greatest fried chicken in the entire world probably not I've had some down south that's been better but on Long Island I don't think anything is better.
We stopped off at 5 Brothers Fried Chicken & Waffles
It is a very small place with an absolutely horrible parking lot but the people that work there and the chicken more than make up for it.
The waffles are fresh made every single time. They had plenty of chicken in the heater but ask me if I would mind waiting a couple of extra minutes for fresh fried. Clearly I did not mind at all.
We ordered a meal that contained 15 pieces of chicken four sides four waffles and a whole bunch of happiness.
While waiting I spoke to one of the four brothers that were present. I asked him where the fifth brother was and he explained that I am the fifth brother. He explained that the other one was home but they want all their customers to feel like family so I got to be the honorary fifth brother lol
We bought 15 pieces of chicken because we decided that we would have lunch at home but four of the pieces didn't make it to the house. They're chicken is cooked well juicy and delicious.
My family prefers dark meat so they let us switch it without any problem. If you're ever in the area and you decide that you want great fried chicken check them out.
If anybody knows any other places that make fried chicken comparable or better tell me and I will check them out. I love...
