Bagel Cafe of Stony Brook — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

I really wanted to love this place. My husband and I see a doctor down the street so anytime we were in the area, we'd try to stop by for breakfast. Usually just a bagel with cream cheese and coffee but a few times we ordered other items. Bagels aren't the best I've had but they have fun flavored cream cheeses so that always drew us there. However, anytime we deterred from the bagels, it was not good. This last time being terrible. I'll explain in a minute. First time we were disappointed was when ordering the Bubbalicious hero. Chicken cutlet was super dry and upset my husbands stomach. He threw out 3/4 of the sandwich at home. Second time was when he ordered an egg, bacon and French toast special. He found a long hair on one of his eggs so he didn't eat that entire egg. He threw it out. The third strike and last time LI Bagels will get our business was when I purchased two of their premade soups that they store in the freezer and fridge. Buy one get one free for $4.50. Great deal right???? Know what that price also includes? A ROACH!! Yep you read correctly. Halfway through my Asian Black Bean Soup I got a spoonful of broth and roach while eating it at work and immediately got sick. I was FUMING! I tossed out the other soup I bought. There's many things I can let slide when eating out. Hair isn't usually something I get over but we overlooked that. But BUGS in my food? Hell no! Unacceptable in every circumstance. Because if I had to complain to the grumpy older, short, thin man that takes orders I would've lost my cool. You know the one. He never smiles, is abrupt and always looks like you're bothering him. I hate writing long reviews but this needs to be said so sorry in advance guys

I’ve been coming here for a little over a year now, I work near by so it’s easy to stop in grab something and go. Everytime I go in no matter who takes my order or what I get it has come out great! They are all extremely nice even when they have to deal with rude customers before me and long lines, they still serve you as best they can even though they have a hiring sign up so they might be a little under staffed but people need to relax they are human and they try there best yeah maybe I wait 10 mins for my food but come on 10 mins out of your day won’t kill you when you seen them rushing around to get your order ready! People disgust me that just because your the customer and go somewhere to get something to eat instead of making something yourself and you get mad at the crew that you have been waiting there a while. They don’t deserve that first off and second it’s not going to make your food at faster by trying to ruin someone’s day when they show up to work to make us something to eat to start our days when they have to be up for work a lot earlier than most people Which by the way if you go to a deli that’s always busy they are doing something right! I don’t know them all by names but I wish I could give these guys 20 stars if it was up to me. People love to complain to try and get free stuff and it’s ridiculous and unnecessary and waste of energy!

I've been getting bagels here for several years, but I went recently and have to say I noticed it was kind of empty, and hardly any bagels left. This was around 12:30 on a week day. I couldn't believe they kept such low stock like that when many people still get bagels at lunch. This wasn't the first time this has happened either. Next issue and the main issue is I have witnessed this place get dirtier and dirtier every passing month. This time I just felt like why should I keep coming back when they charge the most expensive costs for food, and don't care enough about my business or anyone else's enough to make sure this place is kept clean. Seriously, you guys have to do a better job. It's very grimy. And your ceiling is disgusting. Would it kill you to take some of those profits from over charging everyone and invest a tiny amount to clean up your ceiling? This is a food establishment. The floors, tables, showcases, windows, and bathrooms, have to be kept as clean as possible. Fast food chains like burger king and mcdonalds never have this problem. Figure out what ever you need and try to be better than fast food places. I will be back in a few weeks and will gladly update my review if I see improvements.
