Big Time Bagels — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

Won’t return after going for years! New worker, older gentleman. Second time having issue with him. First time I was standing on line and he started talking looking right at me and he rudely told me I was not next and to wait my turn. The person was standing near the door that he was “helping” but ok! Rude but whatever. I didn’t realize because he looked right at me. This time NO ONE was in the place besides a woman sitting at a table with her child. Older guy starts talking to me and I casually talked back and he says how he can help me. I told him my order and he rudely says how he wasn’t talking to me, go to the back of the line which there was no line. I said she was sitting at table, I didn’t know you were helping her. He fights back that she was next and irs not my turn and points saying LINE starts there. I explained how I will never come back and had no problem going to another worker but he could’ve nicely said oh so and so will help you, she’s next instead of rudely pointing to this imaginary line and acting like I need to find my place. I always felt comfortable here along with my family. One of the workers always asks how my husband is and is so genuine. This guy is horrendous and should not be working...

12/2024 update.

This is now Big Time Bagels and so far it is a huge improvement. Good egg sandwich, good service, good people.

Always busy on weekends. Always. Call ahead to order your egg sandwiches on the weekend and skip the long line.

UPDATE - OK, I can no longer ignore what has been an intermittent problem at this place for years: The flies! On any given day there are literally dozens of houseflies throughout the place making themselves comfortable. Flies on the tables, flies on the counter, flies on the iced tea machine, flies in the sink and flies crawling on the pile of phone order egg sandwiches waiting to be picked up. The proverbial final straw was a one-two punch of first noticing the dead fly pinned to the glass case near the salt bagels which then drew my eye to the other two flies crawling on the basket of everything bagels. And I imagine they were having the time of their lives. An open-air street market in Bangladesh couldn't have a bigger...

This is the bagel store on Portion road……. I used to always go here when I was at Sachem North as a kid so I was excited to go back. My biggest pet peeve is when you try to eat food and they start cleaning with bleach/pine sole and it ruins your meal, this is exactly what they did 5 minutes into my stay. We ordered very simple cinnamon raisin bagels lightly toasted with butter and two large coffees. Both bagels were burnt and way too much butter. How can you ruin a bagel???? While sitting there I watched the way the girl cooked bacon in the microwave and touched things with her hands. This is definitely a place for high school kids that don’t put much thought into their food. For a quick starving breakfast I may try again but because of cleaning with chemicals while I try to...
