The charming historic setting for a tavern and inviting restaurant right in the heart of Stony Brook. Strolling about the grounds as you enter, you can easily envision an outdoor wedding in the garden or a delightful lawn party. Inside the floors, walls, and setting speak to the heritage that surrounds this location. Events abound here including a 7-Course Tastings on Friday's, annual Pig Roast August 23, and more. We celebrated Father's Day here with a delightful Brunch. The Chef here worked his magic bringing both traditional breakfast favorites and choices like Prine Rib, Jumbo Shrimp (Which at the commencement of our seating ran out, so staff were dispensed and they produced enough shrimp to satisfy all the hungry appetites. The Maitre D'/Hostess, Jennifer, (hope I got this correctly, gracious woman with dark hair and eyes, petite stature) made sure to communicate the shrimp was on it's the way. And all the staff were accommodating and attentive. Certainly A+++ for customer service. I left thinking, sure wish I had my wedding here! The foods were displayed nicely, deliciously prepared and offered many choices in meats, salads, fish, both hot and cold preparations. The dessert table was delicious and in keeping with the Lessings high standards for taste. If you have time to visit Stony Brook, do put Mirabelle on your itinerary. If you need to stay over, you are in luck as the Three Village Inn is part of this beautiful property. Enjoy the views and lush landscapes. Don't be surprised if a groom rides up on horseback as it sure is within keeping of the fairy tale...
Read moreWe have been a client of Mirabelle before Guy moved since 1985 and have continued to be a patron still today even driving out from Manhattan to enjoy a meal or should I say a French culinary delight. Obviously Guy’s time is limited here, with Sandbar in Cold Spring, catering activities and such. I had no intention of writing this so hence no pictures. After it took 3 and I repeat 3 attempts to serve as an entree a tavern burger with cheese with a bacon marmalade properly I felt I had no choice. The first time it came out looking like steak tartare on a bun, the 2nd attempt was so overcooked it could have passed for cardboard in color but the funniest part was that a piece of sliced American cheese or cheddar that was uncooked was just laying on top of it. Comical would be an understatement. Yes the third time was the charm can you imagine if it were the Cassolutet that took 3 attempts? By the way that was a special and they ran out of them. The appetizers were their duck tacos, steak tartare, mussels and a goat salad, all were fine but fine isn’t something to drive 75 minutes for. The entries were 2 lamb shanks and another tavern burger. Again there were no issues and they were okay no quite exactly what you would have hoped for based on Mirabelle’s reputation. The biggest drawback was the help they were terribly short staffed which only makes the dining experience that much more disappointing. We were all taken back and great full that Guy wasn’t there last night. Hopefully this review will be taken to heart and changes...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurants I’ve been to in my entire life. Bread appetizer is bland and basic, garlic butter has no flavor, I’ve had Hawaiian sweet rolls better than this.
Ordered a “teeny-tini” martini, got a watered down drink with a hint of vodka, piled with a brown lemon peel and an orange dot in a clear drink.
Actual food? I got the roasted chicken with potatoes. Chicken skin exterior is a bit over seasoned with too much pepper, actual chicken and every other part of the dish is lacking in salt and flavor, even the sauce and potatoes. Everything felt watered down or not sautéed enough to get the water out, mushrooms, pearled onions, “pancetta”.
Salmon was cooked ok, not seasoned well but ok. Risotto is not great at all and looks like boxed packaged yellow rice. The sauce they have for the fish and risotto is too mayo forward and way too rich and one dimensional, no acidity or anything to cut the richness of the dish.
Food not great.
Atmosphere is also not great, I get it’s a tavern but it seems kind of dingy, the carpet and environment where we sat smelled a bit like mold. The low ceiling and old wooden elements made me want to leave faster. Seeing the exposed wiring everywhere made me want to leave.
Staff were kind of non chalannt, server checked on us like twice, people who served our food and poured drinks looked so dead and emotionless inside.
Top contender for worst restaurants of the year and the year isn’t...
