This happened in July and I have decided I have to report the incident. I came to the restaurant as it was highly recommended and admit I really was interested in the lump crab meat eggs benedict that I saw on the menu. I am allergic to bell peppers and they can be hidden in food. The smallest amount will trap me in the bathroom for hours. I always ask before ordering. I explained my allergy to the waitress and asked to be sure that there was no bell pepper in the crab cake or in the sauce, She went to the kitchen and came back and reported there was no bell pepper in the meal. I had finished the first cake and gradually started to sense bell pepper in my mouth. (I started to belch and could taste it... NO!) I was shocked. I scraped back the sauce and sure enough there were small red bits in the patty. I knew I was going to have a very bad day. Could I drive the over two hours home before it fully kicked in? I called over the waitress and she insisted there was no bell pepper. Even though I showed it to her. She returned and said there was no bell pepper and what I saw was something call ca-jing. I explained to her that I thought she meant Cajun and that was a seasoning style and it would likely have bell pepper in it. She returned to the kitchen and never returned. About 15 minutes passed and my friend and I were trying to figure out what to do. Another waitress came to the table and silently dropped the check onto the table in front of me and walked away. I started to cry a bit at that point as I started to feel the bell pepper starting to kick in a bit. I pulled myself together and walked to the register. I was ignored by all staff for a while and could see they were glancing at me and whispering. I finally caught someone and asked to speak with the manager. She went into the manager's office for a while and came back out and told me the manager wasn't available. I just stood there. They continued to whisper with their backs to me with an occasional glance my way. I was tearing up and shaking a bit at this point as this was a very uncomfortable situation. I told them I could see they were talking about me and asked why they weren't helping me. One of them finally approached me and said the manager wasn't there. I repeated my issue and that I couldn't imagine that they were expecting me to pay for food I was allergic to. She told me the meal would be on the house and we left. We had planned to visit Avalon and make some other stops but had to rush to check out of our room and make the long ride home hoping I made it home before the symptoms fully kicked in. Very poor service, bad attitudes, dangerous...
Read moreThis was my first time coming here to eat and let me tell you... It was so worth it! The prices for the food we're absolutely fitting to the amount of food that was given. And the wait time for getting the food was minimal as it came out fast considering the amount of people within the restaurant at that time. The first drink shown is a white chocolate chip latte I believe and it was perfect with the whipped cream on top. The pictures with the tortilla chips is the chili. The cheese that comes along can be added to the chili if that's what you want. The chili itself has beans in it and it is not that salty. If you do decide to order this, and find it to be on the heavier side, my suggestion is to add a bit of hot sauce that this place provides. The hot sauce adds a bit of kick and will cancel out that "heavy" feeling you get from eating it. The fourth picture is the pancakes that came from the kids menu. We ordered chocolate chip pancakes and there were three pancakes in total that was served with whipped cream and powdered sugar. The pancakes we're good in the sense that they were fluffy and very filling. The chocolate chips complimented the pancakes and the whipped cream very well. The fifth picture was the Mac and cheese that they served as a sort of "appetizer". It was very delicious as the shell pasta to white cheese ratio was absolutely perfect. There was enough cheese with each bite of pasta. The garnish on top of the Mac and cheese is bacon, which is addition money, but is totally worth it as it compliments the sauce as well as the pasta, giving the dish a bit of salty flavor that it needs. We also got a side of home fries which were very nice and hearty. I recommend getting them, but not eating them first as they can fill you up quickly. You should eat them as a sort of palate cleanser if you want to alternate bites of different foods haha. And I recommend you use the ketchup and mix in a bit of hot sauce and eat it with the home fries as it give the fries a bit of a kick and tangy flavor as well. This place is great to come to if you want to eat out with family or friends as the atmosphere is great as well as the service given. After eating there, I bet you'll want to come back as the first bite I took of my food instantly brought a smile to my face. I hope this review helps in your quest of finding a place to eat!...
Read moreThis place is unreal. We came New Year's Day. I think if we came while stony brook was in session we would never have been able to get in so I'm thankful we chose the day we did!
To be honest, we came here for the wild lattes. The latte I ordered was surprisingly not overwhelmingly sweet. It was off their seasonal menu - the Yule log. Espresso is quality, and you can get any latte decaf! I also had it made iced which was the move. Topped with a mountain of whipped cream and a generous drizzle of marshmallow syrup...which comes in a few different, fun colors...it was instagram worthy. My husband ordered a regular old coffee, black. He said it was great.
Food, though our secondary draw to come here, knocked it out of the park and is probably the reason we will return sooner than later. Portions are humongous. We literally ate only the food we ordered here for the entire day. Granted we started eating at noon. Took home more than half of our meals each and had the leftovers for dinner. I got the egg quesadilla. So freakin good. The chipotle sauce buddied up with the melty cheese made the perfect combination for my tongue. My husband ordered the pancake quesadilla - a wacky menu item - and it was so incredibly delicious. The best of both worlds: sweet and savory in one. The corned beef hash is next level. There are beautiful huge chunks of corned beef throughout. You don't even need to add salt and pepper or hot sauce. It is so tasty. I encourage any and all of you to try it.
Service was polite and friendly. They seemed understaffed, but managed it well considering. We were seated in the booth by the bathroom. And though it had a sweet view outside, the bathroom door swings open inches from you and your food and face. I cringed and and held my breath and maybe even shielded my food every time someone came and went from the bathroom because, EW. That was my only gripe. I would ask to wait for another table to open before ever sitting...
