Do not come here at all even for the holidays. The service is horrible and the staff is extremely rude. First thing is we felt pressured to check our coats, which we nicely declined. The woman made sure to make us feel uncomfortable and shocked that we didnât want to check our coats and even made a comment when we sat down to say âoh well youâre lucky you have an extra coat chair thenâ. Our server Christian asked âare you all ready to orderâ in which we proceeded to say no we need a minute. He then said oh well you need to order now anyways and you had to order starter, meal and dessert all at once and this was before our drinks were even brought to the table. We were extremely rushed and someone in my party got their starter taken without asking if they were finished - when they werenât. We asked for two sides of Parmesan cheese which we had to confirm we wanted twice as our server was hesitant to give it to us instead of saying of course. Our tomato soup had no grilled cheese croutons as per the menu and had to ask for them - if we didnât ask they wouldnât have came. We had to deliberately ask for our dessert to be held as our food was coming out immediately. I personally also ordered an espresso martini with cream which curdled - Iâve never had that happen in my life. That is my go to drink and in every restaurant the drink has never separated or curdled. The server then proceeded to say âwell obviously you didnât drink it right awayâ. Of course I didnât Iâm an adult out to dinner with my family not pounding down drinks. He proceeded to say well we cannot take it off the bill which I didnât even drink the drink itâs not like we were trying to get a free drink. We asked for the manager and instead we got another server for some reason. He came over to tell us basically nothing is going to change and the manager wonât help. Not sure what his role was in coming to our table to help with nothing and be rude. We also asked him about the $25 deposit per person as one person was sick and unable to make it. They still took the $25 but didnât apply to it the bill? The secondary server proceeded to tell my table âwell if that person died we still wouldnât have given you youâre deposit backâ. Extremely inappropriate to say especially about my family member who is already sick. FINALLY the manager came over who was very nice and immediately apologized not for his staff but for the drink and did indeed take the drink off our bill. Even though his wait staff literally fought us about not being able to get it off the bill. Overall wouldnât recommend this place to family, friends or strangers. The appeal of the place during the holidays definitely gets you to go but once there it was...
Read moreJust came back from an extremely disappointing meal. Yes, the place is beautiful, if you don't look too closely, my chair was squeezed between the table and an iron radiator whic h was covered with chipping paint, the table cloth had black stains on it and the chair cushion had white stains,
We made reservations for brunch but when we arrived we were advised that they had a special Mother's Day menu and brunch was not bring served.
Just for the record, before I go any further, despite it being Mothers Day the restaurant was NOT busy and in fact only about half full.
There were 9 of us, when the entrees were served only 8 were served. The last entree didn't show up until 15 minutes after the others were served.
The "French carved duck " which was described by the waiter as a half duck , consisted of two leg and thigh quarters, no breast meat, and it was dry and chewy. The "black cherry reduction" consisted of 3 cherrys which appeared to have been pulled from a canned pie filling. It was accompanied by a dollop of wild rice and two thick (think preschool crayon thick) asparagus stalks with woody stems, inedible.
Also inedible was the "filet mignon" served to one of us. It appeared to be the trimmings from a roast. It was sent back and a filet "medium" was requested. The next piece served looked fine until it was cut , the outside was seated, the inside raw.... Not rare, raw. It was sent back and returned well on the outside and raw in the middle.
I understand the fig appetizer was excellent ( I do not care for figs myself but those at the table who do quite enjoyed them). The lobster bisque was served with a beautiful golden brown pastry crust and it was quite delicous despite the fact that not one of the four bisques contained a single scrap of the advertised lobster meat.
The crab cake was also very good, but for $18 it was shockingly small.
We persevered determined to enjoy our outing and ordered dessert. 7 desserts ordered, 6 served. The Cheesecake with fresh fruit consisted a nice slice of standard cheesecake with 1/4 of one strawberry and one blackberry.
All except for the final slice finally delivered 10 minutes and 3 reminders later which consisted of half a slice (the front half missing) and the fresh fruit consisted of one sad and lonely blueberry.
The creme brûlée was delicous although again accompanied by"fresh fruit " of 1/4 of one strawberry and one blackberry.
The chocolate raspberry cake was pronounced "very good"
The beverages purchased were one Bloody Mary , one mimosa, two diet cokes, and six coffees.
The bill was over $600.00
We arrived with great expectations but left hungry and disappointed and a good deal lighter...
Read moreI know a lot of people have raved about the food here but I didn't have that experience. We were two couples and a 13 year old. To start, my ginger ale was as flat as a board. No biggie those things happen but with only three other tables occupied, you'd think they would have noticed the lack.of bubbles. Only my sister in law and I ordered appetizers. Mine, the French onion soup was pretty awful. No cheese melted on top, it was all at the bottom of the bowl. The broth was terrible, tasted like an old beef bullion cube heated up with dishwater. The amount of onions, or lack of, left a lot to be desired. My sister in law got the cheese/meat platter which she and Tom enjoyed except what was suppose to be fig jam was really honey, I guess they ran out. For entrees, Tom had the littleneck clams over pasta which he liked except the pasta, Angel hair, which was overcooked. My brother said the lobster roll was good, my nephew got the calamari which I tried and thought was quite tasty. My sister in laws spicy wontons were very good. My rotini with braised short rib sauce was again, terrible. No real flavor to the sauce and the rotini was way overdone. I felt the sauce may have been prepared a week or so ago bc there was literally no taste to it and the braised rib meat was so stringy and again, no taste. I'm sure it was good a week ago but not the batch that I got. The main reason for two stars is simple. If you're the server, and you see that someone hasn't touched their entree except for maybe a spoonful, you ask if everything is okay. Since no one stopped by to ever check on things until after the meal was finished, I didn't find the opportunity to complain or rather, have them cook me something else. Our server was nowhere in sight, in fact I didn't see the other waiter anywhere either and who wants to start a meal when everyone else is done eating? Even when the table was being cleared, nothing was said as he took my full, uneaten dish away except for ,"would you like a container for that". The decor was cute, plenty of parking since there were only four other dinners besides us. The ladies room had too much of a industrial like smelling lavender scent. Not sure if that was in an effort to mask odors bc there's no fresh air or fans in there but they should really dial back on it, whatever it is. Pricing is comparable to most places and the staff although friendly really needs to understand you need to always check on your tables at least once if not twice after bringing food out, just to ensure everone's happy. So, I doubt I'll ever go back and try the Country House again. There's many other places to spend...
