Something changed at Shah's. We have been coming here since they opened for family meals. Will usually order at least 6-8 platters. The food is really good but they have hired a manager and people who should not be working there. I bought this early in the day so I could heat it up at night for when our family came over. I asked if I could have the lettuce on the side so it wouldn't get funky upon reheating. The manager plated it up and tried charging me $2 for it. I told him don't worry about it and that I will just buy it on the way home. He wound up just throwing it in. This is lettuce that normally would have just been on the food in the first place. Next up, I asked for 6 of each sauce. White, green and red. 6 platters to go, 3 sauces for each. He asked if I got sauce on the food, I replied with "Some did, some didn't but I want to give people choices." He told me he wanted to charge me for them. It's frustrating to come to a place for so long and start having them nickel and dime me on silly things. Just raise your prices. I tried reaching out to the owner before leaving this review, but I have not heard back and the staff are not eager to have him call me. This is the same owner who had heard his staff trying to charge me for something once before said "If someone orders one meal, sure charge them, but if someone is buying 7 platters you don't need to charge them for a few extra peppers and onions." I know the owner is a normal person, but his staff are running the place poorly. I understand language barriers and have no problem trying to work with people who are learning the language, however if your staff cannot understand when someone says "No hot sauce" and points to a platter, you need to retrain them. One platter was for a child and they doused it in hot sauce. Sorry for the long winded story. I truly did love this place...
Read moreIt's for people who never had street food in Manhattan. If you never had street food in Manhattan and don't expose your taste buds to the best of the best, this is the place for you. Try squeezing the lamb and notice the amount of oil that comes out. ONION OVER LOAD. Too much onions kill the taste of foods.Too much oil will eventually send you to the hospital. The rice tastes like a bland coconut milk based beans and rice without beans and a bunch of onions. In fact, the food has so much onions that I'm crying as I type this. Also the style rice and Mediterranean meats don't go well together. No argument. Certain things go together and certain things dont. The combination of (what seems to taste like a bland coconut milk based beans and rice without the beans and a giant set of onions) and the oily Mediterranean lamb gave off a weird, funky taste. Bottom line: the food is for people who never tasted real, award winning, extremely popular, street food carts that's been around for years, before the advent of the internet, in MANHATTAN. This food is wanna be street food. And to the owners reading this: Please take this as constructive criticism. If you want to last long make the rice taste like Biriyani and scrap the nightmare rice recipe you are serving. Most folks don't have the stones enough to complain. Please go less heavy on the onions and oil. Also make the white sauce taste less like ranch. Plain yogert, coriender leaves, shreded cucumber, little bit of chopped garlic and a squeeze of a half lemon makes a huge difference. To everyone else reading: This food doesn't match up to what I've had from Manhattan. If you know of a spot where I can find something to eat in...
Read moreSuch a shame they have 2 inexperienced disrespectful young ladies working at the front. So long story short every time I would go there, young gentlemen would give me discount after showing my badge and my military ID and the point is not getting discount the point is feeling valued and recognized for your service and respected but today 03/13/24 around 6:45 pm these girls not only were unprofessional but were also careless and disrespectful and she totally ignored us and said no,no,no discount even after presenting my ID and badge and the other girl says it’s not even expensive food, I told her it’s not about the money I can pay the full price but it’s about respect and recognition and after I told them this they just totally ignored us. Then I asked if the place changed owner because I know this was not how we were getting treated before but the lady with darker skin says no this is how it is. I just don’t understand how these businesses continue existing while letting inexperienced, disrespectful people working at the front. It’s said they have good and delicious food but not good employees workin...
