Southdown Coffee - Patchogue — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

Took over for one of my favorite bakeries, Hometown. The sign is still up on the corner.

Coffee: Overall on the weaker side. I tried both the coffee on site and beans to go. Both are not strong coffee. If you're a coffee person this is more of a bakery spot.

Pastries: Man, that raspberry coffee cake is good. Cookies are okay. Coconut Macaroons are okay. They say everything is baked in house and it does seem fresh.

Overall a nice space to sit and have a coffee date, not dog friendly and a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Hopefully they'll dial in the espresso.

Note: Parking is a nightmare which is what hampered Hometown.

**Updated for reply - Thank you for the reply! I actually feel like the Sureshot is too darkly roasted which makes it harder for extraction. Most of the beans I use at home for espresso are Nomad or Onyx which are medium roast.

After Roast closed, I was as distraught. Nowhere else could I find top tier, well-made, ethically sourced coffee with an entrancing aroma... Or so I thought! Then my friend turned me onto Southdown, which checks all boxes for preferred coffee!

Another hidden gem in Patchogue that still gets many customers, understandably so! The staff is relaxed, patient and helpful, and remember everyone. They're also widely knowledgeable in their field and are great at pointing people in the right direction. The flavors are unique and innovative, my favorite to this day is the chile chocolate mocha, it lives up to its name and packs plenty of heat, the ice cream serving as a perfect cooler and the coffee to mediate both flavors. It's also great to see a coffee shop that lets good coffee lead with flavor, not sugar and syrup. I've brought many friends here and we all agree Southdown is the best cafe around! This is hands down the best coffee place in Patchogue. You won’t find a better cup of coffee or experience. All of the baristas are great and really make it a point to make you feel welcomed. The food is also wonderful. But please for the love of all that’s good in the world.. grace this beautiful space with some more comfortable seating!! I get that too much comfort might make people linger.. but the current seating totally throws off the vibe and doesn’t make me want to stick around any longer than I have to. I’d love to hang out, do some work, and keep buying all of the delicious things Southdown has to offer...
