For the most part this was exactly what it looked like from Yelp and their own website: coffee shop / bistro of the type easily found in larger cities like San Francisco and more cosmopolitan small cities like Ithaca (and not so easy to find in most of upstate NY). The bread is definitely a cut above average.
If sounds like what you want, you won't really be disappointed.
I took one star off because neither I nor the person with me picked up readily on the cues: which door to enter, whether the server would come to our table (no, not to take the order or bring the drinks; but yes, to bring the sandwiches) or whether it was up to us to add cream as desired (yes).
These are not fatal problems but they did distract from the experience. I would try painting the wrong door a darker color and the right door a brighter color, moving the condiments to be more visible as you order, and trying for a prominent sign that says "Order...
Read moreMy partner and I came to this cafe after looking for a quick to-go coffee spot. We did come around 11am on Sunday, so we did end up waiting a bit for our order to be taken. Once we got to the register, staff was welcoming and friendly, appreciating our patience.
They have decent prices, especially for their sandwiches. My only criticism is that the indoor dining area is fairly small, so if you are a person taking your items to go, there isn’t really much space to wait without feeling like you’re on top of the tables/other guests.
But let me tell you, my iced hazelnut latte was EXCELLENT. A fear with lattes is them being too milky and overpowering the coffee flavor, however this latte was the opposite. Excellent quality bean. One of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time. I inhaled it. I will definitely back to try the food, however I will ABSOLUTELY come back for the coffee...
Read moreIt is not an exaggeration when I say that Pewter Spoon is one of the best lunch stops in the state. This is not just because of the food, which is always reliable and comforting, but because of the people who run it and work there. They are some of the kindest people you'll ever meet and have given our family so much. The staff they hire is the best: kind, genuine, caring people who make sure you (and your stomach!) leave the place happy. Now lets get back to the food. They have a variety of paninis and salads, and always have interesting specials if you get there early enough. They also have a few baked goods/cookies (highly recommend the berry jam oat bar!). A couple of outdoor tables to go with eight indoor tables and a counter top make for a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel at home, especially on rainy or snowy days. The drinks...
