HeartStone Artisan Bakery — Restaurant in Town of Cazenovia

We purchased a couple cookies, pecan bar, and two pieces of the broccoli/cheddar quiche. We were told our total ($23 and change) and the person at the register spun it around for us to tap our card, which we did, but then realized a $4.60 tip had been added automatically on top, so over $27 total. Since we were told the $23 total, that was what was expected and then we noticed the different total and tip added, which we brought up and asked how to go back since that amount was added. We were told by the person at the register “I can’t go back…thank you!” It felt very dishonest as we were charged a different total than what we were told and there was absolutely no attempt to remedy the situation. We were not going to argue over $4, but we certainly won’t be back. Also, the broccoli and cheddar quiche was pretty much just egg. It was shocking how few pieces of broccoli there were and there was no discernible cheese flavor. The ginger chocolate cookie was honestly delicious and even had small pieces of ginger. Still not worth the icky taste left by how the store handles their cashing out/lack of any customer care. If they are going to have the machine automatically add a tip, especially 20%, they should advise the actual total you will be charged and/or that a tip is being added so you don’t automatically tap your card. They definitely could have canceled and re-rung out the order, or even offered another cookie or something..anything besides saying an incorrect total and charging higher. Prices were also not posted next to most items, so you’d have to ask if you’d like to know how much...

First things first, if you are not able to make it to their lovely brick and mortar location, they pop up at the Fayetteville Farmer's Market on Thursdays and the Hamilton Market on Saturdays (I believe others, but that's where I go). Now, about the best sourdough bread I've had since relocating from Vermont — it's the perfect balance of texture with the exact right amount of crispy light and chewy crust. (Honestly, their crust is what I love most of all their sourdough breads I've tried, which include the Garlic, Traditional, and my favorite is the cheesy one... OH MY!) However, if I can sneak in a recommendation, because ALL of their bread products are special, if you can fetch a focaccia and warm it up on the grill — you will NOT be disappointed! Wait, there's more... if you are into danishes... their cheese danish is literally the BEST TASTING THING I'VE EVER eaten. WOW! Don't make the mistake I did and only buy one... Heaven! Massive thank you this wonderful small business and the lovely staff that work...

This bakery is beyond belief! There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING that they make that is not absolutely amazing. I will not eat bread from anywhere else. The pastries, the cookies, the pies, the savory items, and all of the breads are simply the best I have ever had. You can taste the love that goes in to everything they bake. It's worth the drive from anywhere, and the owners and staff are some the most amazing people I have ever met. If you haven't tried it, you are really depriving yourself of some of the finest baked goods anywhere. I make a trip weekly, and would not miss it for anything.
