I was a big fan of its predecessor, McCarthy’s, and its Irish food and didn’t know what to expect from this new incarnation. It’s delightful. The interior has been completely renovated, not just a new coat of paint slapped on, and is clean, bright, and welcoming.
My pleasure doubled when I was warmly greeted by the new General Manager, Jonny Haines. Jonny is a local legend in the Cazenovia pub and restaurant scene, renowned for his craft cocktails. More on those in a minute.
Everything at 64 Albany is farm-fresh and homemade, right down to the chocolate pudding for dessert. I had a hard time choosing what to have, as everything looked tempting. I finally ordered the Rueben, which was delicious. I had it closed-face, which came grilled on marble rye.
The corned beef was tender and flavorful and the generous portion of meat was balanced by a healthy amount of sauerkraut and perfectly melted Swiss. Homemade Russian dressing completed each savory bite. And the handout fries were perfectly golden brown. Best of all, Jonny immediately put down the malt vinegar when I placed my order and asked if I wanted ketchup when the sandwich came. Nope, he got it right the first time.
Now, for the beverages. I enjoyed a perfectly pulled pint of Guinness with my lunch, but saw Jonny working his magic with Woodford Reserve bourbon, and something I hadn’t seen before: fresh peach purée syrup. I asked him what he was making and he said it was a Bourbon Bramble.
Usually made with blackberries, Jonny had been to our farmer’s market that morning and scored some homemade peach preserves, which he brought back to the restaurant and turned into the mystery ingredient. That’s how creative he is behind the bar.
I ordered one and wasn’t disappointed. It was a delectation and a great way to round off my meal. I will definitely be back and highly recommend you stop in. It is well worth the drive from Syracuse or...
Read moreI had an incredible experience at 64 Albany Pub & Grille! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of cozy and lively vibes. The staff were super friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The menu has something for everyone—my burger was cooked to perfection, and the wings were hands-down the best I’ve had in a while, with just the right amount of spice. The craft beer selection is impressive, and they even recommended a local brew that paired perfectly with my meal. Prices were reasonable for the quality, and the portions were generous. Can’t wait to come back for another round! Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for great food, drinks, and...
Read moreAs a Caz College Alumni, I am sad to see the classic McCarthy's Pub go but I am happy to see a great pub in its place. My party of 3 got the poutine and blooming onion as appetizers. Both were delicious. We got a GF burger, Mac & Cheese, and Shaved Steak Sandwich. Both sandwiches came with chips and were very good. The kiddo got Mac & cheese and they didn't like it but the staff offered to take it off the bill w/o us asking (thank you again). Beautiful renovations and truly great service. They also have local brews on tap with a wide bar selection. We'll definitely be coming back whenever we are...
