Disclaimer: fat Patty's have recently increased their prices due to cost of food going on the rise. Most menu items are $1 to $2 more expensive than they are posted currently, and this disclaimer is shown on a billboard as soon as you walk into the establishment.
We made a visit to fat Patty's on a Friday night around 7:10 p.m. as a dinner option before we were going to see a movie at 9:00. We had heard a lot about their burgers and wanted to check them out for ourselves. Fat Patty's is a bar first with plenty of seating for dine-in eating. When we arrived, the bar was at practically full capacity with only a few seats available at the bar itself. We opted to sit at the bar to eat as we noticed previous reviews had stated the wait times here were long , but worth it, and we didn't want to risk missing the start of the movie even though it was 2 hours away.
The first thing we noticed is that there was a massive lack of staff. This is not surprising considering the current state of affairs due to COVID-19, but it looked as If the bartender was the only one waiting on the entire establishment. Because of COVID-19, I do not believe it's fair to ding fat patties for long wait times due to lack of staff, but I do feel it is necessary to state that our entire dining experience, from the time we sat down until the time we paid our check, was approximately 1 hour and 56 minutes, easily double a standard sit down experience, and to the point that we were getting very nervous that we may actually miss the beginning of our movie even though we allotted a lot of spare time in our schedule.
Not surprisingly, due to the above mentioned, wait times for every step in the process were fairly long. Our bartender, however stayed very calm throughout the process, did not seem stressed, and when our food finally arrived it was hot and fresh.
Which brings me to the food. As an initial disclaimer I'm not much of a cook but I pride myself on my burgers. It's my opinion and the opinion of most of my friends whom I've made burgers for that i make a really good home-cooked burger, so I hold burgers to a higher regard than most other food. Fat patties call themselves a burger bar. As such, we expected quality burgers and ordered two, the Rustler, which is a take on the barbecue and fried onion burger, and the Hawaiian inspired Maui Wowie.
The one thing you definitely get at fat Patty's is volume. You pay approximately $15 for a burger and fries and the quantity you get would satisfy most everyone before they even finished everything on the plate. It's an enormous amount of food, Even with the recent price increase. The fries are seasoned well and taste fantastic. The burger quality, however, really lacks in one particular area. They seem to rely on their toppings to make a good burger, and they don't seem to season their meat at all. If they do, it was so little that it was unnoticeable. The resulting burger has delicious toppings, but when you get to the meat it's very plain and lacking flavor. Considering "Burger bar" is literally in the name of the establishment, I feel this really leaves a lot to be desired and I dinged fat patties a little more critically than I would have if they did not tout their burgers as their main attraction.
Overall, even considering the very long wait times and the plain tasting burger meat, fat patties was a good experience and I would dine here again. Be aware however, if staff shortages continue like they are, The fat Patty's experience took an extended period of time, so don't come on a...
Read moreWe visited yesterday and had less then a positive overall experience. We seated ourselves out back and were provided menus and ordered beverages. It was nice to have a cold draft beer, which they recently were approved to serve. We ordered an appetizer, a burger and a chicken sandwich. The app came out relatively quickly and was very good and a large portion. Same with the burger and sandwich. I don't think anyone can find concern with the portions and quality of the burgers. We have had them several times while at their previous location and they were always good. Wherein lies the poor experience follows. Last year in April we visited their previous location in the middle of the pandemic for take out. While there I purchased with cash a 100 dollar gift certificate. Approximately 3.5 months later they close their location with little warning, and move to Front street and open up. In October I messaged and inquired about the validity of my gift certificate and they did not reply. Last night, we inquired politely to Jess the owner if indeed she would accept the gift certificate. She replied no, our accountant closed that LLC account and we can not accept it. She also indicated others had attempted to redeem gift certificates and they were denied as well. What troubles me is that she did not ask how much the certificate value was, and she did not offer a reasonable solution. There were many ways this could have been handled better, and unfortunately none were suggested. Last year was very difficult for the restaurant industry and we had hope to make a small contribution by purchasing the gift certificate. We left them the gift certificate and also full payment for our meal, and a reasonable tip. While the quality of the food was fantastic, I think the owners need to take a step back and get some business management training to assist them. You can make a great burger and sandwich, but that really is the easy part. The difficulty is the front end where the servers and customers are. They need help in that, and I hope they figure it out. It's likely we won't return, as well, we were prepared to purchase an additional gift certificate before we left. Unfortunately for them, that did not happen. I thought long hard about this review because it pains me to leave a less then positive review. I hope they can see the areas that need improvement and make positive changes for the restaurant, and improve their...
Read moreMy husband and I along with our family members have been waiting a long time to come to Fat Patties to dine. We finally decided to try it out last night at 5:30 prior to any power outage. We walked in and immediately saw a sign saying CASH ONLY, ATM AVAILABLE ON PREMISE. That wasn’t any big deal but I refuse to to use an ATM in any restaurant. We had no problem paying cash. I was under the assumption that Fat Patties had alcohol drinks and with the different neon signs that adorned the walls I think it was a reasonable assumption, but that’s not the case. Ok, let’s get past that. The restaurant was absolutely sweltering from heat and had a couple fans blowing. It appears it has no A/C or it isn’t working. Things happen sometimes. All of the tables were dirty from previous patrons that came to eat and we needed to wait for the woman who seems to of been the only person waiting tables to come over and clean it off which was about 5 minutes while we stood there waiting. We sat down while she walked away again and came back with the order for the table next to us and spilled partially something on the floor. She came back to us and left menus and once again disappeared. While we were looking them over she next brought napkins and silverware wrapped in them and threw the bundle on the table and walked away. It was at this point we got up and left never ordering or being able to try the food. I don’t believe we will be returning to try a second time. I understand this may seem critical and there may of been a lot of issues happening last evening but first impressions can’t be taken back and ours was far from a good or even mediocre impression. We were so excited to find this place as one of those we could enjoy. This won’t be the place. I’d like to add a couple things to this review I left. I understand that businesses are having a difficult time hiring help. We knew before coming that food was made to order. However it didn’t excuse the attitude the one waitress there had when we finally were able to sit down. Personally customers pay to keep the business going. A smile and an explanation would of helped but never offered. It’s was disappointing because we have heard so many good things about Fat Patties. Unfortunately we choose a time to dine when things...
