Went here for a late lunch. The server rushed us, and was not very friendly. I ordered a combination platter with 3 items. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas and one beef enchilada. I repeated my order about 3 times, because it didn’t seem like he was understanding. What arrived was 2 chicken enchiladas with chunks of grilled chicken inside, no cheese inside, and 1 beef enchilada. Lukewarm rice and lukewarm runny beans. Everything was lukewarm, and the enchilada shells were floppy and not cooked with a gelatinous red sauce on top. I let our server know I didn’t want grilled chicken and he said I didn’t specify so that’s how it comes. I’ve ordered chicken enchiladas many times in my life and I’ve never been asked to specify if I want grilled or shredded chicken. Finally he brought 2 chicken enchiladas with shredded chicken and 1 beef. Still lukewarm. When the bill comes it was $24 instead of $20 so we asked about it and we found out because we (same thing happened to my mom) ordered chicken and got grilled chicken, it was $4 more. The menu just says chicken or beef, it does not specify grilled chicken, shredded chicken etc. so obviously he made a mistake when putting the order in. Just very annoying. I had high expectations for this place and thought it would be good based on the reviews, but it was really sub par. If looking for a Mexican restaurant in Latham, Don Juan’s is much better. I’ve been to many Mexican restaurants and this was honestly really bad. Also when I asked for green hot sauce he gave me the verde sauce in a bowl, and later I asked if they had bottles of green hot sauce and turns out they did have the El Yuca Teco bottles of hot sauce as he brought both red and green bottles. Why didn’t he just bring the bottle of green hot sauce in the beginning with the bowl of verde sauce so I could choose? Never again will I go here. The bowl of verde sauce had no flavor whatsoever. Might be better when I warmed it up but I gave my leftovers away so I won’t know. Maybe try and...
Read moreWe arrived around noon. A waiter greeted us and guided us to a table and immediately started going through their cocktail list. After about five I stated we would both like water. The waiter continued with the cocktail list. My wife interrupted and told him we don't drink alcohol. He informed us they have mocktails and resumed to list their mocktails. I interrupted and stated again we want water. Returning with the water he asked if we would like Salsa and chips. After giving him a confused look he stated "they are complimentary"! I've been to many Mexican restaurants including some in Guadalajara, MX. and chips have always been brought to the table without being asked! When they arrived the salsa was in such a small bowl that we ran out with about 1/4 of the chips. The salsa tested like marinara sauce with a little cilantro. I told the waiter that the salsa didn't even have garlic and the reply was that most customers don't like garlic! Really??? Also, I have never seen a Mexican restaurant that didn't have several bottles of hot sauce on the table. I ordered Chicken El Diablo Enchilada's and my wife order two small steak chimichanga's. So "El Diablo" means "The devil" in Spanish! Wouldn't you expect this would indicate a spicy dish? No, the sauce was basically sour cream mixed with a little tomato puree. No heat at all! I asked the waiter if I could have some hot sauce. The waiter brought out a small dish of house made hot sauce (We were charged $1.50 for it!!!), The chimichanga's contained about two tablespoons each of steak. The steak appeared as if it had been cut into small cubes before being cooked in a frying pan to the point where they were almost black and crisp...not tender at all. I know meat prices are high but so were their prices....Very disappointing! At best, I'd say this restaurant serves Americanized Mexican food. And charging for what is complimentary in all other area Mexican restaurants is not best best approach for getting...
Read moreManito oh manito!!! Ill tell you this one, I'm kinda mad at myself cause this whole time I thought I already did a review. But then two came around and I am now happy I can share a culminating experience from my first to my most recent time.
My first time here I was alone and was taking myself out after a long few months, it was an amazing experience and I was treated like a king and I'm not dragging it. I was asked several times how things were, and if I needed anything but yet didn't feel like they were on top of me, they let me enjoy my ME time and that was amazing. I came back with my sister, my niece, and several other people, because why not? Since then I have been here over a half dozen times and when asked where to go and sit to eat Mexican, this is my GO TO!!!
If you are unsure what you want, try the Tour de Mexico which has a little of everything and is my favorite. Chips and salsa are always delicious but if you want a real Fatboy treat, get the Chiccharon con guacamole.. that is everything right there. Also pictured is the barria chimichanga, queso and house made salsa. I was so ready to eat yesterday I didn't even take a picture of my food, but those Cowboy Nachos were fantastic and on point.
The one thing I NEVER get pictures of are the draaanks. That's because I'm already done with them before I remember to take a picture. My go to is the Frida, 1800 coconut tequila based margarita ...and normally I'll get a pitcher to share, and it works out for sure.
I love Mexican food, it reminds me of my Nana and her love for it. I continue to come back because everything is delicious and on point. Thank you to my waiter yesterday Kueny and my guy Alex for holding it down on the regular for me. You know I'll be back!!
Try them out you will NOT be sorry. Tell em Vin Vin sent you, I'm trying to see...
