Not a good experience. We have driven by this restaurant for several years, but had never visited until last evening. We went with some friends that we had not seen in months in hopes to have a nice, casual evening filled with conversation and good food - unfortunately, this was not the case. Our server, Brian, rushed us through every aspect of the meal. Literally, as he served our first drink, he asked if we were ready to order - we had not even opened our menu's. Then, after we had only eaten half of our salads, the entrees were brought to the table and he struggled to find room for all the plates. Brian....a little advice: read the room. If we haven't opened our menus yet, we aren't ready to order. If we've only eaten a small portion of our salad, hold the entree's for a few more minutes and then ask if you can remove our salad plates to make room for the entrees. I could go on & on about many other aspects regarding the pressure we felt to eat & leave (ironically this is so contrary to how it works in Italy).
The food itself was very disappointing, as well. Our salads had some bitter greens and looked as though they had been plated in the early afternoon, and then held at room temperature for several hours (wilted greens). My wife ordered the haddock that was supposed to be bakeded. It looked like it was poached and was luke-warm - it was so flavorless that she ate about a quarter of it and left the rest. Her baked potato side was not done and wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter she applied to it. Again, she ate only a few bites. Brian, take note: If someone doesn't eat their meal, ask if everything was OK. I had the veal parmigiana - it was OK, but nothing that I couldn't have at any given family restaurant/diner. Again, disappointing for an "Italian" restaurant - I had higher expectations.
Based on other reviews, I'm hoping this was just a bad night. We will try again (not on a Friday), and hope for a...
Read moreJerlandos has been a family favorite of ours for more than a decade. Their food and service are fantastic and the environment is so homey and welcoming. I am leaving a review this time because my husband and I hosted our son's rehearsal dinner there at the end of August this year and it was more than we ever hoped it would be.
We connected with them for planning the meal a couple of months prior as we thought our group would be 25 or more and they like to have a planned menu for groups this size so they can be sure to have our preferences on hand without running out and I imagine for ease of service. We had dietary needs for several in our party who are vegan and vegetarian and amazingly, for an Italian food restaurant, they have so many ways to work with you on dietary needs that we were really pleasantly surprised.
Their pasta and dough (including garlic knots!) are vegan and the even the gluten free pasta is vegan. Their red sauce is vegan and you can order a pizza with veggies only enjoy it with red-wine vinegar (delicious!) or BRING YOUR OWN VEGAN CHEESE! We also brought meatless meatballs in case those in our party wanted them with pasta and sauce. Their Puttanesca can also be made vegan. They are happy to work with you!
Our server, Ryan, was amazing. And although they didn't have Champagne on hand, we ran to the nearby store and picked up 3 bottles, they chilled them for us and uncorked and served for a corking fee. We had 20 in our party and it was such a delightful and memorable experience, all made easier by the generous offerings and service provided by Jerlandos. We cannot say enough about how wonderful this event was and thank Jerlandos for being a huge part of that.
Plan your dinner with Jerlandos. You will have the best time and best food! Thank...
Read moreI seldom write reviews but I feel I should write one for Jerlando’s. If my husband were to say let’s go out to dinner either of us would ever say let’s go out for Italian. It’s not that I don’t like Italian but the thought of going out the first thing I think of is prime rib or a filet mignon and I’m not a huge meat eater. We get take out from your restaurant in Montour. There are so many foods that don’t tolerate the trip well. Chicken wings get soggy as well as the bun on a burger. Even though I have no Italian in me I have to make my own sauce with sausage and meatballs simmering in it all day long and I make about 24 quarts of it in one day. Then my kids clean me out of it all, leaving my husband and I with 3 quarts or so. Even my daughters cat will only eat my sauce. Does Jerlando’s sauce tast like mine, well not exactly but it has a great flavor. I hate sauces that are sweet to the taste. Lately my favorite thing to order from them is stuffed shells and they have an amazing flavor. It comes with a large salad. For the reasonable price I have enough to split my order and have two meals to look forward to. I would love if they had 4 shells in each order so I could split them evenly. They should charge per shell. Now let’s talk about the salad, it’s huge and I love the fact that they use iceberg lettuce. Many people think it has no nutritional value but that’s simply not true, look it up. All in all we have eaten at their restaurant in Watkins Glen, always crowded but a pleasant place to eat. My only complaint is that in the summer it is fat too cold inside! Please turn that air conditioner! I think the only other gripe I have is I wish you would serve mixed drinks. Other than those two things your food is to...
