Went for a motorcycle ride with my father the other day (26 Aug 2023) and we decided to stop over at Jumpin’ Jacks for lunch… food was good and it’s always a great atmosphere if you want to eat outside. I have never had a bad experience up until yesterday. As my father was waiting for our food I went to the checkout window to grab drinks and pay for our food. Upon getting our drinks the cashier asked if there was anything else… I began to tell her what we ordered and she rudely interrupted me saying that she must visibly see what we ordered. As I then told her I’m going to set the drinks down at the open table by our motorcycles I was met with rude sarcasm. My father believed we had paid and began to put condiments on our food at the condiment stand approximately 10 feet away… This cashier demanded (not asked) my father come to the counter as he was putting ketchup on his cheeseburger and as I reproached to pay I again told her what we ordered and we showed her the tray… she then had the audacity to say to me “Are you both too lazy to step up to the window?”
To follow this up the soda I received was bad (watered down) and when I went back to the same window to get a different brand I was met with hostility and was not believed as they then went to try the soda to verify I was not lying to them.
I always recommend you go to Jumpin’ Jacks if your in the area as it’s always a great place for food but I now sadly retract that statement after yesterday’s visit. I’ll be sticking to Jack’s Drive-Inn over in Wynantskill due to this cashier’s behavior.
For the management of Jumpin’ Jacks… this cashier should be disciplined for her rude behavior to your customers. As due to her behavior you have lost...
Read moreThis place is more about the nostalgia than anything else. The food is pretty much deep fried or grilled if you want to be slightly healthier. Often like luke warm, and I would give everything on the menu a "just okay" rating of 2/5. For example, I ordered the Jack Burger and was excited because it sounded like their version of a Big Mac. Instead what I got was a small cheeseburger, with an extra layer of bread in the middle, a regular hamburger on top of it, topped with normal coleslaw. No ketchup, no pickles, no Russian dressing or special sauce, not even lettuce and tomato. And it's a shame because it was more expensive than a Big Mac. Seriously though, they could have made this something very special simply by adding an additional slice of cheese, a little bit of Russian dressing, and a pineapple coleslaw - none of which would have taken additional time to prepare.
The ice cream however is always a treat for any age, they have some pretty fun flavors, and I would give it a 4/5, bringing the overall rating to 3/5. I also have to mention that during the summer, when there isn't a pandemic going on, Jumpin Jack's will put on a water ski show for the guests, followed by a fireworks display on Friday nights. It's a great place to bring kids, build new memories, and then walk it off in the park across the street.
Overall, I think a 3/5 is a fair rating for the restaurant, even considering the pandemic. If they put just a little bit more effort into making their food a cut above stay-at-home BBQ, I think they would be able to bring in new guests who want to build new memories with their families for...
Read moreA rite of passage for anyone who grew up in Scotia. It's a seasonal place, only open from spring to Labor Day. Ample seating outside, right on the Mohawk River and across the street to Collins Park. In the summer, Thursdays are always packed since the amphitheatre next to it, Freedom Park, has live free concerts that night. Tuesdays, the local water ski team also puts on shows. The grill they use for their burgers is (i think) the orginial from the 60s, so there's so much flavor even though it's just a plain cheeseburger. Curly fries and onion rings are a must-try and their ice cream is one of the best around. Don't forget to tip the cashier... if you do, he yells "subway" and the whole staff shout "thank you!". Don't know how that tradition or the crazy nicknames they give their orders came about (2 cheeseburgers and an onion ring gets called out as an "indian" for example) but it's fun to experience. The food is a little pricey for what is essentially fast food... but the location, community vibe, and delicious food make it a mandatory stop if you're in town...
