This is our go-to place for take-out pizza! We've been coming here for years now and it's excellent every time. Orders are usually ready about 20 minutes from when we place them and occasionally 40 minutes on busy days. Our favorites and must-gets are the Mama's Square ($26) and the classic cheese pie ($20 for a large). The Mama's Square is a delightful rectangular pizza with a crunchy crust that resembles focaccia, plentiful melty cheese, and sprinkles of basil that complement the savory-sweet sauce. The classic cheese pie is that quintessential New York slice: thin crust, solid ratio of cheese to sauce, and evokes the nostalgic feeling of buying a slice during pizza day at school. There are great customization options too, we like to add pepperoni cups to the cheese pizza or get the Paulie Gee Pie (which is basically the Mama's Square plus pepperoni cups and Mike's hot money). If you're feeling like adding vegetables to your pizza, we love the tartufo pizza with its mushrooms ($24) or the cauliflower pie ($17).
At this point, we tried nearly every pizza on the menu and are gladly working through the paninis, which are also fantastic. We recommend the Drunkin Panini ($13) with a nicely breaded chicken cutlet in that addictive vodka sauce between two slices of perfectly pressed bread. If you're a fan of cheese, you'll like the ricotta and mozzarella calzone ($9) which is packed to bursting with the goodness of cheese, ideal for dipping in marinara. We think the pizza is the stand-out item here and we find that more worth trying as compared to the appetizers and pasta. We're enjoying the new app and reward point system, it makes it so convenient to order. We'll...
Read moreI had a pizza Epiphany today! Was in the neighborhood in the mid-afternoon so I decided to finally go over to Hartsdale House of Pizza (203 East Hartsdale Avenue). Let's start off with the owner, Mark. He is as personable as John is from Pizza Fenice. They are buds, and Mark says they collaborate. I could see where a case can be made for that. I really like Pizza Fenice. Let's make that known. But I must say, that what I ate today over three slices of trying, systematically blew me out of the water! I started off with the plain slice because quite frankly everything starts off with the plain slice, IMHO. With the very first bite, it was perfection, and brought me back to 1968 back in the Bronx and the wonderful pizza shops that I frequented back then. It's the first thing that hit me. Perfect crust, delicious sauce, extraordinary cheese and a crunchy overall slice. Easily a 9.5. I could eat this all day! Next up was there Buffalo slice. I've always thought that nobody could beat Capri Pizza and Pasta for a Buffalo slice; I was wrong! This was a 10; a real culinary delight. Mark came over and was so nice to give us a sampling of his Cacio E Pepe slice. So nice of him! Although I must say that it was not exactly my favorite, it was really good as well. Just not my favorite, but crispy and satisfying at an 8.2. wonderful cheesecake for dessert . Yum. Anyway, pictures are attached (the last three pictures are others that they sell, but I didn't sample yet). This is a must stop for everybody. Yes, I'm a pizza snob. I could eat this all day everyday. And the people are so nice. That doesn't hurt...
Read moreFirst time here for me. A Detroit and a regular slice. The only Detroit they had was what looked to me like an "Everything" ... included pepperoni, sausage, onion, regular sauce, vodka sauce, ham ... would have preferred a regular or pepperoni Detroit. Will try to come back some time earlier in the day because maybe at that point that's all they had left.
The Detroit was heavy. It was definitely the better of the two slices. For me, too much cheese on the top layer which overwhelmed the other ingredients. Others may have different preferences and may be ok with this.
The plain slice was disappointing. Again, overwhelmed with too much cheese (and I like cheese!). Sauce could have been tastier. And while the crust did have some crunch to it near the center, it did have some flop as I ate towards the outside. Again, certainly ok for some, I prefer my pizza with a crunch to it.
Good to have another option for Detroit style. I note a few other reviews that complained about the counter service. They were not nasty and certainly fine, but I do think they could have been a bit friendlier and a few more smiles couldn't hurt.
Will give it another...
