Got takeout from Szechuan City today. Hot and Sour Soup was decent, not close to the best I have ever had ... although it was spicy, something was missing. Egg rolls were tasty but again could have been better - lacking in crispness (although they were sitting in a box for a few minutes before I tried them). Had the Chicken with Szechuan Pepper as a main course. Now, maybe I just didn't have a description of the dish before I ordered it. But it was pretty much breaded chicken nuggets (very tasty though) with no sauce at all. I have never had a Szechuan or Hunan dish without sauce and I was expecting some here (perhaps falsely).
Returned for another visit. Had Egg Drop Soup and Hunan Shrimp. This time, the Hunan Shrimp definitely was in a sauce. And it had a wonderful combination of broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, etc. Shrimp were nicely done, fresh, and tender. But again, it was really bland. Not very spicy either for Hunan (although that would have been ok). It's just that the food here is very plain (including the soup). If that is what you are looking for, this is the...
Read moreWe happened upon this place as it has just opened up, and I came into it with low hopes. What a surprise! It was some of the best chinese I have had for a long, long time, including much higher priced restaurants in the city. The dim sum was obviously freshly made to order and fantastic, and the chicken dry pot was better than MaLa Project in Manhattan, which used to be my go to. If I could give the food quality 6 stars, I would.
The service was also great, they even threw in a free dessert and Japanese soda for our kids, which was a nice touch.
Atmosphere was 4 stars, mostly to do with the location. It's not a romantic date night spot, but who cares when the food quality is this high. Well worth a visit, and once they do delivery they will be getting a lot...
Read moreAs an Asian who appreciates real Chinese food, I was happy how this restaurant satisfied my taste buds. Great food, good prices, and friendly staff. The Szechuan dishes are legit. I loved the tofu pudding with fish and also the vermicelli and pork. I’m excited to go back and try more dishes. There are only a couple of other “authentic” Chinese restaurants in the area and they tend to be overpriced with a cocky staff that thinks they own the Westchester arena. Now I am glad this place is providing great food and comfort...
