Wife and I tried Cafe Calabria for our 27th anniversary dinner. We very much enjoyed our time there from the very minute we stepped in the door....Sandy was our waitress....Very knowledgeable about the menu..a pleasure to see that...did not hesitate to suggest a wine for dinner... Everything was great from our appetizer: Insalata Caprese to our main course's...my wife had the Mamma’s Lasagna and I had the Chicken Sorrentino... Over time I have come more to appreciate the natural flavor of food than having to prop it up with additions of condiments...with these meals it was not required....of course we had to try each others meals as was a pre agreement even before we got there...the Mamma’s Lasagna was just the absolute best I have had...the pasta has to be home made...simply fantastic...sauce..homemade sausage...simple, but great presentation.... I was at a loss trying to finalize my choice for the evening...I was that torn...they all sounded so good...I was leaning towards the Bone-In Ribeye with Seared Scallops, but knowing my wife could not try this, I settled for the Chicken Sorrentino...and folks, it did not disappoint what so ever...plump chicken a sauce bursting with flavor...eggplant that melts in your mouth...and again, the pasta...Cafe Calabria has it down to an art form....the very best I have had...and believe me I have had alot of pasta from may corners of this earth over the years.... I want to personally thank the our waitress Sandy and the staff of Cafe Calabria for a great evening and a very unique first time dining experience....Happy Holidays to you and yours....God...
Read moreWe were hoping to discover a great new restaurant for a special occasion. After reading many good reviews, we choose Cafe Calabria. We were disappointed. Arrived for a late lunch at 3:18 after catching a mid-day movie. We were told that they stopped serving lunch at 3:00. There was no one else in the place, and no one showed up until an hour later. It really wouldn't have hurt them to make us a sandwich! Anyway, we decided to stay anyway and order from the dinner menu. But, first a drink! My husband tried to order a martini. Sorry, no real bar, just wine and beer, no draft beer and not much selection of wine. The only Chardonnay was Beringer's, and they had the nerve to charge $9 for a glass! Please, I could buy 1.5 L of Beringer's in a liquor store for $9! ( I guess beggars can't be choosers...) The highlight of the meal was the bread and dipping sauce; the rest of the meal failed to impress. My husband had Frutti Di Mare, which contained one lone scallop and one small shrimp among other cheaper fish. He enjoyed the sauce. I had Chicken Sorrentino, which was "OK", but just OK. Service was decent. (For quite awhile, the staff was busy at a table chatting and having their own lunch.) Overall, not a great experience. For those wanting Italian/Mediterranean food, I suggest going a little farther east on Western Avenue to Barcelona Restaurant. We have never failed to have a great meal and great...
Read moreWe just tried Cafe Calabria II for the first time ever and decided shortly into our meal that we will be repeat and regular customers. We loved everything about our 5 STAR dining experience, from the warm and welcoming staff, to the incredibly delicious (and warm!) fresh bread with its accompanying delectable pesto sauce (wow!!!!) to the wonderful house salad (complete with delicious house made roasted red peppers, shaved parmigiana cheese and perfect balsamic house dressing) to our wonderful entrees and the fabulous desserts - the homemade cannoli and pineapple cheesecake, both of which were the best we have ever had! My husband loved his entree - the chicken parmigiana - so very much and my penne a la vodka entree was extremely delicious! The pasta was perfectly done and the sauce is so amazing you will want to lick the plate. It was an honor to meet the delightful and charming owner Sandra who, along with her very friendly and hard working staff, provided us with excellent service. We felt like VIP's and the restaurant was completely full. If you are new patrons like we were, you will enter as a stranger and leave feeling like family. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the volume level is perfect (even with a full dining room). We intend to try every dish on Cafe Calabria II's very impressive menu. Grazie mille per il...
