It had been quite a while since my last visit to Grimaldiās Pizzeria in Garden City, so I decided to stop by again for a nostalgic slice. I went in around 4:00 PM on a weekday, and the place was almost empty, just one table occupied and a couple of guests at the bar. I mentioned I was dining alone, and the staff invited me to sit anywhere I liked. That warm, welcoming attitude hasn't changed, and it was a pleasant surprise to recognize some of the same servers from years ago. It's always a good sign when a place retains its staff over the years.
I ordered a large pie with Cajun chicken. I used to love their Cajun shrimp pizza, which unfortunately is no longer on the menu, something I hope they consider bringing back. The pizza arrived in under 15 minutes, which was great. It looked exactly how I remembered itāthin, coal-fired, and generously portioned. However, the taste was slightly off from what I recall. The crust was slightly overcooked (not enough to send it back, though), and the Cajun chicken was too salty and lacked the spiciness I expected. It felt like something was missing, maybe a flavor or seasoning that made it more memorable in the past.
That said, the service remained top-notch: polite, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. I had three slices and had the rest packed to go. Prices have definitely gone up, like everywhere else these days, but still fair considering the portion and quality.
Overall, it was a pleasant return visit. While the flavor didnāt quite hit the same notes as before, the atmosphere, service, and quick turnaround make Grimaldiās a solid spot for a casual pizza outing. A few tweaks to the toppings and seasoning would easily bump this to a...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreDrove with family from Brooklyn to Garden City to try this place because it looked nice on the outside. I thought it was a full italian restaurant but discovered it was just pizza. We decided to stay anyway, but the food was just gross. My sister got a meatball parm hero. It was brought to the table obviously black and charred. I asked for chicken parm with ziti, which they made, but the breaded chicken underneath the sauce was soggy wet as if dipped it water with canned sauce put on top. The ziti was lousy. I ordered hot garlic bread, it was a thin small long breadstick with wet cold smeared margarine. A glass of Coke, a cannoli and coffee. The bill was $50, with a suggested gratuity of $9 printed on the check. A glass of Coke $3.50, 1 cup coffee $3.50, the "garlic bread" $7, cannoli $12. The waiter had a high and mighty air about him, as if he was doing us a favor by letting us eat there. Definitely disappointing and insulting to customers. The only thing done right was the whole check was canceled after I complained, but it was cleared with resentment. Took my family to Rosa's in Middle Village, Queens and got this lovely, well-done chicken parm dinner with ziti for so much less! Crispy breaded chicken, hot, melted parm and ziti was on point! I thought Grimaldi's in Garden City was going to be upscale, but it was so not. And the cannoli shell was not even filled all the way.
