Our party of seven happened to get there eight minutes before the opening time, which is five pm. We were greeted by a gentleman who identified himself as the chef of the establishment, who told us we could sit wherever we liked. We chose the outdoor deck with a bar adjacent to one of the canals in Freeport, NY. We waited chatting among ourselves until the place was officially opened. The ambiance was great, Reggae music livening the vibes. The menu, while limited, had some interesting entrees like vegetable pasta that has cheese in it. Although I don't drink alcohol, I found the mixed drinks rather expensive, even water was three dollars. This is the first restaurant where I've seen that. My wife and one other member of our party had Moscato, which was nicely chilled but both glass seemed to be poured from different brands, even though only Moscato was listed with no flavour varieties. For appetizers for my wife and I, I chose Jamaican spring rolls, they are two per serving, very tasty, spicy and full of flavour. She (my wife) couldn't handle the heat, so I ended up eating both orders. She then ordered steamed Mussels paired with Marinara or roasted garlic sauce. All the flavour was in the garlic sauce. The Mussels were steamed but not seasoned. On to the main course, two of us chose the steamed red snapper with spring vegetables and rice and peas. Well steamed fish, yet all the seasoning seem to be within the head and the peas tasted of can from where they came. One of our party had stuffed salmon with shrimp, crab meat and roasted potatoes, for her the salmon was bland but the stuffing was delicious. Another had pineapple salmon, pan roasted with tangy pineapple sauce. His complaint was only the sauce had flavour, no seasoning on the salmon. A few more things, when the wait staff arrived, there was no introduction of themselves to let you know they would be hanging your orders/tables/party. And at the prices of the mixed drinks, they should be served in glasses or glass mugs. Last but not least, nice ADA restrooms, great interior set up, good looking bar. I hope everything I've addressed clarified the...
Read moreSsssssooooo disappointed. I wanted to have a great experience. Originally, my fiancé and I wanted to go to another restaurant. However, while walking we saw Hurricane Harry's and the clientelle mainly black, we looked reviews quick and saw 4.2 stars. I was like great, let's go support. The waitress brought the menu, it was a take out & delivery menu. I brought it to the waitress attention she said that's the menu. (By the waitress was nice, no negatif comment on her) I was like the menu might be limited due to the coronavirus, and not many people are dining out yet so which may explain of the limited options on the menu. So, we proceed and ordered our drinks and appetizers, then our entrees. I ordered rhum punch and that was the worst rhum punch i ever had, bartender should I have just pour rhum and some ice on a cup because that drink didn't taste like rhum punch. Appeziters which was thai chili wings, it was salty basically the wings was fried and thai chili sauce on the side. We didn't even get to the entree, it was about to rain heavily. So we kindly asked the waitress to put everything on a to go container and paid for the food. We even tip her cause frankly it's not her fault. I was just disgusted with the restaurant, the bathroom was nasty. We ended going to another restaurant 3 doors down. The whole street are competitor restaurants, I expected better especially hurricane Harry's suppose to be that Caribbean cuisine. When I got home later that night we decided to take a look of our entrees. Let just say we didn't regret we left. The food was below average. I could have gotten something better from jamaican flavor near my house. I just hope and wish owner can get it together see their potential in that neighborhood because our caribean cuisine cannot be so...
Read moreRegrettably just wasted my time at this establishment. Waited nearly 30 minutes and had to ask about our drinks 3x. Once to the hostess and twice to servers as the food started coming out before the drinks. The hostess was not seen again until time to pay the bill. Utensils weren’t placed on the table and when they finally came around to give condiments there were a few plastic forks in the carousel with the ketchup.. Hostess was God awful and the food was just as awful as the service received or lack there of. Ordered jerk chicken and asked the hostess what type of meat is served. White or dark? she couldn’t answer. I assumed she didn’t understand what I was asking. Perhaps maybe a language barrier and so I asked if it was white meat in Spanish. She still didn’t understand my question. I left it alone and continued with my order. She was completely clueless the entire time and couldnt answer any questions regarding the menu. Food came and the rice is definitely boxed. There’s no way they considered this meal Jamaican jerk chicken. The meal was insulting and I left my plate nearly untouched. Fries were bland. From freezer to fryer and the burger was unseasoned. They just slapped the patty on the grill and served on a bun. Meal was reminiscent to school lunch. My drink was garbage too. The vibe wasn’t even giving anything Caribbean. I’m shocked at all the positive reviews and very upset they add gratuity automatically to the bill, meanwhile my hostess was no where to be found the entire time. Will never catch me...
