If you are looking for good beach food and don't care about things like presentation then look no further than Jeremy's on the Nautical Mile. I have been to many of the restaurants along this canal-side strip through the years and been disappointed time and time again after eating poor meals at high prices. Jeremy's delivers the opposite. Four of us filled up on a shared appetizer, four meals, 3 extra sides, one bowl of soup, and 4 large beers (there was great debate whether these styrofoam cups were 32 or 40 ounces- they were huge) for $22 each. I can't remember the last time I ate in Freeport for less than $50 each! All food was served on paper plates with plastic flatware at our dockside table after ordering our meals at the bar; no-nonsense! There was so much food we ended up bringing some home to reheat for another meal.
Our calamari legs starter was perfectly cooked, fried to a tender, golden brown. One of the best plates of fried calamari we've ever had, not one piece was overcooked and rubbery. The serving was gigantic; easily shared among all. There is a special each day and two of us ordered the Tuesday special; 1/2 pound of shrimp. I got the buffalo shrimp and it was perfectly spiced and served with a fresh blue cheese. My husband is a fried shrimp connoisseur and could not get enough of his plate of beer battered goodness. The cocktail sauce was great, although we thought the tartar was a bit too lemony (grab the sauces at the bar- they are in plastic squeeze bottles). My parents ordered the seafood combos, one grilled, one fried. The grilled dishes come with rice that is on the plain side, but why fill up on rice when there is so much yummy seafood around. If you are a Manhattan Clam Chowder eater this is a must; homemade, filled with clams, and the broth has a nice clam flavor to it without being overpowering. And the onion rings are old school- big onions, fresh batter, piled high. The beers are cold and delicious, and the gigantic large may be the best drink deal on the Nautical Mile.
If you want a romantic night in well-decorated surroundings, or a waitress to serve you, or anything fancy Jeremy's Ale House is not your place. If you are looking for delicious food and don't mind (or embrace) a no-frills, dive bar setting Jeremy's...
Read moreYesterday my wife and I went to a restaurant at the Natical Mile in Freeport called Jeremy's Ale House. We heard their food was good so we decided to order takeout. As we were going in a man holding drinks intentionally bumped into my wife sending her against the bar because he felt she had passed in front of him while he was walking, so he decided to take a physical approach to a WOMAN. A man that will take a physical approach to a woman is only known as ONE THING! but I won't say it because the word is inappropriate but that's exactly what this guy is. As a husband I was very unhappy, so I went over to this man in front of all his friends and told him that what he did was very rude and uncalled for . I told him that he awed my wife an apology. So of course he feels tough in front of his 6 friends and starts to curse me out. I responded with words of my own until the bouncer came over and told me, not him, TOLD ME that there are cops in here and that I should watch out. Last time I checked COPS were supposed to uphold the law, not break it. The mentality to fear individuals because they are affiliated with the police no matter the wrong doing, is an injustice in itself. The cops are supposed to be the law, NOT A GANG. Another customer that was obviously friends with the individual was very biased and told me that it was an accident and he saw it when it happened, but I dont know what he saw because if he saw anything he would have seen this man actually shift his weight to bump into my wife. I came to realize that the people running the place were affiliated with this man who disrespected my wife and that's a shame. So anyone going to that place beware they have cops posing as Gang members. Now I'm not one to point the finger and blow the whistle, but right is right and wrong is wrong. In this world we are taught to respect and love on another, and if you are a police officer you have a sworn oath to DO THE...
Read moreI usually go to hurricane Harry's but they were closed. So I saw a crowd in here so I figured the food was good. I'm on entering the place was full with a bunch of alcoholics right off the back. And I was surprised to see the village employees firefighters and village employees drinking on the job with their uniform and their work vehicles outside. This place is infested with mice and rats. I seen a big rat run right by the bathroom and I thought I was seeing things. Then as I'm waiting at the bar to get a beer that that's when I saw the rat run out the bathroom again. Everybody saw it but they act like it was normal.. I'm not surprised that this place is not shut down because all the employees come here so they look past it. I know how it goes. I'm assuming since everyone in here was white they're still in business. I support all races but this is definitely the nastiest place on nautical mile I've ever been and will never return. If you're going to get drunk and you're an alcoholic I guess it's fine. But for people who have a family and was looking to dine I do not recommend. Again the place is loaded with vermin and the health department...
