I was in East Meadow recently and craving halal food, so I decided to check out Shahâs Halal after seeing a wave of positive reviews online. The place itself is spacious and visually appealingâclean, well-lit, and inviting. I walked in expecting a smooth experience, especially since I was on a tight lunch break.
I ordered something simple: a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The woman at the counter asked what I wanted, but that was itâno follow-up, no offer to add fries or a drink, which I actually wanted. She called someone from the back to prepare my sandwich, but instead of getting started, he took the next customerâs order and began making that one first. I was told it would take 7 minutes. It ended up taking 15.
Eventually, the woman went to the back herself and made the sandwich. I didnât mind who made it, but what bothered me was the lack of engagement. When she returned, she simply asked for paymentâagain, no offer to add anything else. I was too embarrassed to speak up at that point, so I paid and left with just the sandwich, even though I had planned to eat inside and enjoy a full meal.
The sandwich itself was fine, but the experience left a sour taste. I felt rushed, overlooked, and honestly, a bit invisible. The staffâboth the man and womanâseemed disengaged, and while I donât expect over-the-top hospitality, basic attentiveness goes a long way.
I wanted to like this place. I really did. But for a spot with such strong reviews, the service I received didnât match the reputation. Hopefully, this was just an off dayâbut for now, Iâll be exploring other halal options...
Read moreI accidentally ordered from this place recently on Uber Eats. I was told the one in New Hyde Park is better but for some reason my app picked up this one by mistake and they're further from me. The portion size was the smallest Halal I've ever had anywhere and there was no white sauce like I ordered.
I know not to go to this place, because when they first opened a few years ago, I decide to try them, and the person I believe is the owner was very rude and like someone else said - no smile. The staff was the same way. I felt very uncomfortable, like I did something wrong by even being there and I'm all smiling and super friendly. The food portion at that time also was inadequate. I don't feel I get my money's worth at this place.
I'll stick to the Halal food trucks. There is one on Oak St. across from Hofstra or go to Hamza and Medina. Food portions are way larger and...
