We have always been searching for a good brunch restaurant on the island. Ever since Brownstones replaced Friendly's, we had to give it a try. And recently, I don't regret the decision. Since we come down every month, it's a nice treat to dine here!
The staff here are very friendly, all waiters and waitresses. They're willing to engage in conversations; they give you suggestions for dishes you're unsure about; they all are really great at their jobs!
The food is delicious. I always stick with my Nikki's Berry Crepes. For one, I'm surprised a restaurant has crepes! First encounter for me. Second, they tend to not be burnt and that's awesome. I love the whipped cream and strawberry sauce they use. But I will admit, it is pretty sugary. My father always gets the potatoes with pancakes, I don't know the exact dish. The bacon, sausage, and orange juice are also killers, and the bacon is typically perfectly crisp, never burnt! So good!
The inside of the place is nice and open, and the small decorations are cool. Love the steampunk wall!
Would I recommend this place? YES. The staff are exceptionally friendly, the interior is nice and open, it is very sanitary, and if it's a nice day out, it's worth eating outside.
I will admit, this place is not recommended for you if you are on a diet. I'm sure there are healthy dishes here, but some of them like the Nikki's Berry Crepes are loaded with sugar... well, if you get the whipped cream and strawberry sauce with it. Also, when it's busy, it does tend to get loud on the inside, so it's hard to hear what people are saying at the table. I also remember a while ago there were two girls who gave everybody problems, but they're long gone now...
Read moreWe arrived as early as possible around 9 am and were told it would be a 1 hour and 15 minute wait. That was alright by us, it would give ample time for a proper breakfast before I went to work at 1:00 pm that day. It was busy for Mother’s Day, and it was understandable that it was hectic and stressful for staff so I give them that. But what I do not get is one of the 3 female hostesses having a terrible and cold attitude towards not only the customers/people waiting but to her fellow staff members. The others were alright, but jeez.
Our once 1H15M wait soon turned into almost 3 hours of waiting, and with every reply about asking about a time update “another 10 more minutes” to “We cannot give you a time estimate at this point.” We hadn’t asked about updates no more than 3 times as to respect the hostesses. I had to leave for work sadly as it was already 12:00 pm, and mind you we were there since 9 am still and we were STILL not even seated!! I couldn’t stay and enjoy a supposed to be simple breakfast with my mother and sister.
I was told by my sister that when they finally sat down to eat, their server was inattentive and rarely showed up but was attentive to other neighboring tables. Not even a manager bothered to pass by to apologize for any inconveniences. The food was not worth the 3 hour wait and lack of care by the wait staff.
Overall, I’ve been to this place before and staff was usually nicer but maybe the stress of the holiday was too much. I work in a restaurant environment as well so it’s understandable. Food is great and environment too on...
Read moreMy family and I were really looking forward to enjoying a family breakfast with our new baby at our local brownstones. We decided it would be a wise decision to go very early, as soon as they opened, because we had a large group and a new baby.
As soon as we arrived, we were told abruptly that no strollers were allowed in the restaurant. I explained that we had an infant that could not yet sit up in a high chair. My concern fell on deaf ears. Because we had a large group, I did not push the issue. I decided if I had to I would hold my baby.
The restaurant was empty, and waiting for our last two guests to arrive, my husband asked if we could sit at the table they had set for us, considering we were standing in the foyer which was cold due to the front door opening and closing. Our concern was, sitting as soon as possible, and getting the baby out of the draft.
The hostess told us we would not be permitted to sit with the baby. While I understand the employees need to follow rules, however, I left the restaurant feeling disenchanted by the rudeness and lack of human understanding considering our group was traveling with an infant.
If you’re traveling with a child and especially an infant, please be aware of these issues. Regardless of the weather, you will not be permitted to sit unless your entire group is present, and they make no allowances for strollers. Just thought moms and dads with small children should know Brownstones is far from infant friendly in...
