Wonder is a place with basically unlimited potential, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
Instead of a grand food hall with dozens of tasty options for different types of food, my experience felt more like a DoorDash delivery hub (this place should really be called DoorDash: The Restaurant) where you can place your orders from a variety of different places (all under one roof) and then pick them up together.
The interior is small and doesn't offer more than a few tables to eat at. It seems like Wonder is hoping you're planning to do take-out or delivery. So, as far as an eating out experience with atmosphere, it's even more bare-bones than a modern McDonald's or Starbucks.
And I think a lot of this would be more forgivable if the food was as good as the upscale high-end restaurants you think you're ordering from. And of course, I can only speak to my one experience here which just consists of a few options off the massive menu. So, do take that with a little grain of salt.
While none of the food I ate was bad or inedible, I can't say anything was beyond okay. I got an eggplant parmesan for around $20 -- which ain't cheap -- and it was fine. But I could just as easily have gone to a decent pizza place and gotten a better one. Like, I've had worse, but is that even a compliment?
The real CONVENIENCE of this place comes from the POSSIBILITY that you'll have some friends or family that all want different foods and can't agree on what to get. If you're in that situation, I guess this isn't a terrible option. But if that's a non-issue, then I wouldn't even think of eating here.
But if you should even consider going here also depends on a few things. If you're eating out, how far you are from a mall with a food court? Or a restaurant like a diner, The Cheesecake Factory, or Yard House that serves a large variety of food? Or even a small local place that deserves your hard earned money more.
If you're taking out, is it that far out of the way to drive down the road and pick something else up?
And if you're doing delivery, is DoubleDash (different restaurants on DoorDash in one order) not an option?
Frankly, Wonder feels like a great idea that solely relies on the food being satisfying and enjoyable enough to warrant your business. But if nobody is loving the food and you're still paying the same price you would somewhere else, then is the better convenience factor really worth it? I'd say...
Read moreSeriously cool concept. As a picky eater, the freedom to pick from different cuisines in one order is a much appreciated option!
Everything was cooked to perfection, and tasted great, flavorful and fresh. It had the perfect ratio of dollar/portion, and I’d be much more inclined to to return here for a bowl instead of Chipotle or other fast-casual spots.
If in case you’re still reading and would like to know by dish:
Street Bird / Fried Chicken Sandwich: 9/10, really flavorful! Could’ve used a little more sauce, but the staff provided some options and went with a spicy sauce on it.
Maydan / Chicken Kebab: 10/10, seriously tender, FLAVORFUL, and just a good portion. It could use a side (other than the flatbread) such as rice, salad etc but otherwise was a great dish.
Yasas / Build your own Bowl: 9/10, it was a good decent bowl. I got the chicken souvlaki and it tasted great. Ingredients came together to make a nice Mediterranean style bowl.
Walnut Lane / Crispy Parmesan Potatoes. 1/10, unfortunately, these crispy Parmesan potatoes were the only let down. Maybe it was a one off, idk.
Room for Dessert // Chocolate Pudding: 7/10, it’s chocolate pudding, nothing to...
Read moreWhen I hear "food hall", I picture a college style dining hall with multiple stations you can walk to and get your food. This was no food hall, in fact it might've been the smallest restaurant I ever stepped foot in. I understand now that the goal of this franchise is improved delivery, but I personally dont think "food hall" is an accurate description. I got a make your own Mexican bowl which wasn't good. I like a little spice, but my first couple bites had none. I took a 1 or 2 more and all of a sudden my mouth was on fire. Way too much and unbalanced. There was also a giant ball of sliced caramelized onions hidden in my bowl which was a huge turn off - I didn't even order veggies as a topping. My mom got a cheeseburger which seemed fine, and the side of old bay fries were extremely salty. I like salt, but I ate about 3 and needed 5 big cups of water when I got home. I appreciate the concept - if you want Mexican or Greek, but the kids want chicken tenders, this place has it all in an efficient fast food delivery system. At the same time, I think there may be too many options because it was hard to decide what to eat. Went here because I received multiple ads for...
