As a resident of Hyde Park for the last 30 years I have never received such horrible service. Yes it was a Saturday night but we arrived at 5:15pm and there were only 2 tables besides our table. We had a party of four ordered our appetizers, which came out very quickly. We order our meals while waiting for our apps. The apps stuffed mushrooms and fried squid were ok. Now here is where things went down hill. At 6:20pm we still did not have our main courses so I asked the server if our food was put it. He said he put it in for the third time. Finally at 7:05 our food was given to another table and then they realized it was ours. My wife, my mother, father and I are not ones to complain about food or service but this was just crazy. My wife takes a few bites of her wrap and a huge piece of plastic was in it. I then figured I would speak to the manager. When I spoke to the manager about the entire situation his answer was do you see how busy I am (points to the stack of receipts) it happens. I said well then we won't be back, his answer fine don't come back.
I have been to every restaurant in Hyde Park several times and many others around and have never seen a staff that is so dysfunctional. We did not even eat a quarter of our meals and I asked for the check. The manager then very snotty says you want your food for free I said no I just want you to know the experience we had. He says well alot of other people feel differently and I have been here for 12 years. I asked to speak to the owner and I was told that one of the cooks left and the owner was in the back cooking and was to busy. As a local business supporter and a former retail manager for 15 years I could only imagine how I would feel if one of my customers was treated like this. We will never visit this establishment again and I will be sure to...
Read moreI wish I could give 0 stars. I am now "Pro-Life" after this culinary abortion. Lets start with the service. The wait staff is woefully inexperienced. They seem completely unaware that the appetizer should be brought out prior to the salad, or that when more than half of the food on the plate isn't eaten - it's a good idea to check in as to why. Checking in with your table in general is a good idea. Guess how many times they do this. Yup, zero. Now...the "food." For the record, Clams Oreganata are not supposed to be made with red sauce. Nor should they be made with whole clams or sand(at least I hope it was sand). These were terrible and wreeked of fish from the plate. For an entree, I got the Chicken Francese. This is a pretty simple dish. Just chicken, white wine, butter, and some lemon. At Antonella's, they seem to think its a sauce comprised of 60% lemon and 40% butter. I may have been melted yellow Sour Patch Kids. I had it over penne pasta. You've heard of "farm-to-table," well this pasta was box-to-table. No attempt was made to actually cook the penne, boarderline crunchy. My fiance got the Fettucini Alfrado. I can only assume they used some sort of prison-grade canned sauce and added a few sticks of butter to it. It was truely an awful meal. If you are thinking that Olive Garden isn't real Italian food and you don't want to spend $100 on a dinner for 2 at J. Dominick's, as we were, just suck it up and pick the lesser of two evils for your particular situation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT...
Read moreAn unsuspecting old school Italian restaurant hidden in Hyde Park? Yes and we're not talking about Copal... Found this place in 2017 was looking for a nice pizza, I didn't like the other place I saw then drove to CVS and here it was tucked into a corner. This isn't just a pizza place with a bar in the front there is a nice dinning room and a back room for parties. And this just isn't a pizza place that sells the usual chicken Parm or sausage and peppers. No this place has a great menu filled with dishes that will knock your shoes off. Bolognese sauce that is hearty and full of flavor, you can tell the chefs put their heart into what they send out. I grew up around Ozone Park Queens around little Nonna's and Italian eateries that were around for 40-50yrs and know how to feed you Antonella's is one of those places that take me back to my old nabe and an era that almost doesn't exist. Our server Brittney was five starts all the way, attentive friendly and made sure we were checked on. Everything from the pizzas to sandwiches and salads are great but look out for that Bolognese sauce, they're not afraid of flavor here. As Guy Fierri once said put that sauce on a slipper and I...
