The staff was able to help me locate what I needed, and seemed friendly enough, however the associate who assisted me acted as if she had better things to do (play on her phone). She also happened to be the one who cashed me out (again as if it was an inconvenience). As a part of the cashing out they ask for your phone number (this comes into play). Anyway, after cashing out, my 7 year old grabbed the bag and we headed out as I have an eye on my 2 year old and I'm putting my wallet back together and into my purse. I get them all the way home (across town) and into the house and begin to prepare dinner. My husband arrives home and wants to see what I've purchased. As we're going through everything I discover that a rather heavy, larger item isn't in the bag. I asked my 7 year old (who also took the bag out of the trunk and carried it in to the house) if the bag had been on its side or anything. Nope! So I leave my husband to make dinner and drive all the way back to the store. I walk in and begin to explain when my associate turns around interrupting me and states that "You forgot it. It's back on the shelf in aisle 8." Ummmm..... She only gave me one bag, and nevermind there was time for her to catch me walking out to my car (with a 2 year in tow, it's not a fast process), or use my number I provided at checkout to call me. No. Instead she reshopped what I paid for. That part of my experience was really irritating. Otherwise the store was clean and...
Read moreThis is my go to Harbor Freight store. Even though it's 10 miles from my house I'm probably in here two to three times a month. The store has employees that are very helpful. If they get one that isn't, they usually turn them over pretty fast. I think this is to the credit of the managers at this location who are almost all superb. I wrote in my review of the Henrietta location about how impressed I was with Harbor Freight's district manager Mike. One of the main reasons I go to this more distant Irondequoit store is because of Joe C., the manager, who although I would hate to lose him at my store, I think would make an excellent next level manager for Harbor Freight because he is the most exemplary employee I know and over my decades of experience with Harbor Freight. He's extremely knowledgeable. He's diligent, organized and hard-working. He solves any problem. He's always treated me fairly, but I have been even more impressed with the way he handles the various customer challenges I've witnessed through all the hours I spend in this store. I've never seen him behave any way other than in a friendly courteous and professional manner. This isn't a review about Joe, but since employees and managers do make the store, it's worth mentioning specifically why I find this location particularly to my liking. And I do not know Joe, outside of HF, they only know this because I asked the cashier for it specifically for...
Read moreHarbor freight is my go to place for tools, equipment and supplies for home repair, home updates, boat and auto projects. Although their tools are not the top notch commercial grade brands that cost you a lot of money, their products work well for home and light commercial applications at a fraction of the cost. I am also finding that an increasing number of their hand tools come with lifetime warranties, so low price and lifetime warranty, that is certainly a win-win.
With the lower price, I am able to buy a wider range of hand and power tools for some jobs that I would have struggled to do well without. For example, I recently bought a coaxial cable crimping tool to add more TVs that was less than 1/5th the cost of a commercial grade crimping tool. Since I only needed to use it occasionally, it has worked out well and saved me money.
I also purchased a new 4,000 watt generator that cost less than half of the cost to repair my old generator. The new generator is quieter, starts easier and is lighter than my old one and the warranty is better. How can beat better and cheaper!
Harbor is also famous for offering discount coupons via mail, email or in the store. I also signed up for their “Inside Track” program that gives you member only pricing and promotions. If I recall the cost is about $29/ year, but my first purchase paid for the cost of the year with the discounts I received...
