I normally come here at least once a week and spend on the low end $50. I am rating this place, based on my latest visit, which was two hours ago.
I went in with the intention of ordering a customized birthday cake. I go in, take a look at the book and found the design I was looking for. After finding the design, I went on line to be attended. When my turn came up, the young man, who was supposed to help me, said he doesn't take cake orders, but someone will be there shortly to assist me. I waited about seven minutes for the young lady to come over and help me, which she did and she apologized for taking long. The young lady took my order down and she did have a few questions for the staff that had been there many years, which they answered for her. So after completing the order, she informed me of the price and I said, "okay, I'll pay half today and half when I pick it up." She informed me that was fine. When she gave the order to the cashier, the cashier, said, she quoted you the wrong price and the cake is actually $26 more with the fondant. I told her, I would just take it in the cream, for the price, previously quoted. The cashier informed me that she had to rewrite my order. Instead of rewriting the order, she proceeded to take other customers, even though I know at least two of the other workers know how to ring. Ten minutes later, when she is re-writing my order, she asked me, which customized cake, I wanted, though the previous lady had written it down. So she then goes to the book and states, "oooo, we can't make this in cream and we do, it was to be for 25 people and we have to charge you extra, because it is harder to make it in cream than fondant and some of the cake will have to be tossed out." I told her, the book says, "cream minimum 15 people, where are you getting 25 from? I see where it says 25 people for fondant." She just kept saying, how it was a really hard cake to cut." She offered a different cake, but I didn't want that cake. So, she quoted me the price of the cake, I wanted in cream and it was three times higher, than I was originally quoted. She said, "she apologized, but the girl who took my order is new." I told her, "that's okay, I longer want the cake."
I have been coming here for nearly two decades and I could deal with the long lines, but what I can't deal with is, letting someone who to no fault of her own, take cake orders, when she isn't ready to quote the right price. Then instead of being given the correct price, I kept getting a higher price every single time, for something that is your cake book. Never thought I say this, but it looks like Campbell's will be where I place my birthday cake order.
On another note, this is a Colombian bakery... I understand the majority of the people in the area are from Central America, but people go to the Espiguita for Colombian goods. Every time, I walk in there now, they keep adding Central American food, like there aren't a hundred other places that sell Orchata and Pupusas....don't get me wrong, like them both, but last time I went to Colombia, I didn't see that in any restaurant menu,...
Read moreHad a Terrible experience at the bakery, The food isn’t the problem it’s more of the staff. I’ve never encountered a problem before because i can speak spanish but when my wife(non hispanic) and i went to the bakery looking for help with our sons Birthday cake They ignored my wife and i literally overheard one of the staff members say in spanish “i’m not gunna help her bc she looks like she doesn’t speak spanish”. I Then stood up to offer my assistance but i left discontent about the whole situation. I later called and asked to speak to the owner of the store, where the manager then told me that the owners are never around but she was available for assistance. i then told her about my whole experience (In spanish) and the manager bypassed everything i told her bc i was helped in the end but the problem wasn’t that i didn’t get service. The problem was that the employees didn’t offer any assistance bc not one of them spoke english and refused to help my wife bc of the challenge. They didn’t even express that they didn’t know english, Not even a “no hablo ingles”. Love the bakery but they have to understand that It’s located in L.i NY and if a non spanish speaking customer wants help or service they’re gunna need at least one person that could make the experience easier and more comforting. Not to be ignored and to hear “ yo no quiero alludar a ella porque parece que ella no puede...

I recently visited Espeguita Bakery for the first time after driving by numerous times, and I was excited to explore what they had to offer. Upon entering, I was greeted by an impressive display of items on the walls, featuring many imports from Colombia. The food looked fresh and flavorful, which definitely piqued my interest.
However, my experience took a turn due to poor customer service. The staff seemed annoyed when I asked questions, giving off a vibe that they just wanted customers to make their purchases and leave. It felt as though there was an expectation for me to already know the prices and the range of products available, which was quite disappointing.
While the bakery has potential with its appealing offerings, I’m hesitant to return, especially given the service I encountered. If you’re someone who knows exactly what you want and prefers a quick in-and-out experience, this bakery might work for you. Otherwise, the lack of welcoming customer interaction could overshadow the...
