Went to Roadtrip in Bay Shore tonight. In case you haven't heard of this place the theme is a Road Trip across the US. They have regional dishes from all over the US on a seasonal menu and each week they have a full specials menu highlighting a different state. This week was South Dakota (appropriate for the weather we have been having).
I can't say enough good things about how we were treated , the food, presentation and portions.
We had a 7:15 reservation and they were running behind. The management was so concerned about running behind that they immediately offered us a small bite sample while we waited and offered us cocktails on the house! When a spot for the 4 of us opened up at the bar while we waited the manager brought us free appetizers! (Brussels sprouts and the fried goat cheese- both were really good and I don't even like goat cheese) We absolutely didn't mind waiting for our table!
When we did sit and order food - it was so hard to choose- so many great options. We all stuck to the specials menu and ordered a smoked chicken dish (didn't take a pic), a wonderful squash soup, gnocchi with smoked Gouda, and a lamb skewer appetizer that came with an delicious chutney (which my daughter paired with a side salad as her entree). All were fantastic and great portions. We loved the unique flavors of each dish that made them all memorable. Every dish that walked past us looked amazing too. Drinks were well thought out and great as well. Great Bourbon selection which made my husband happy. Can't wait to see what's next when we go back and continue our national Roadtrip!!!
Just one note- the place is a little small for the amount of people on a busy Friday night- I highly recommend a reservation and space around the bar is tight...
Read moreWowza was this a great find! We went on the google reviews and they were not lying! We made reservations Saturday night and when we arrived it was packed! We waited at the bar for our table which was actually quite nice. The bartender was very quick to attend to us and we got our drinks immediately. Was impressed with the speed of it all. When we were finally seated we had a delightful waitress named Hope, who was outstanding. We ordered appetizers, the artichoke spinach dip, a definite must order! , grilled Brussels sprouts, delicious! , and tuna wontons, again just delicious! We were off to a great start! Two of us ordered the ribs and the other two ordered the mahi-mahi. The ribs came with French fries, Cole slaw and cornbread. Never have I had such deliciously prepared ribs! Delectable! The French fries were insanely good and the coleslaw was equally delicious and fresh. The cornbread came with I believe a maple glaze which for me was a bit too sweet but then again I’m a purist with cornbread. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed their mahi-mahi dishes as well. We then had the campfire doughnuts as a dessert and they were simply scrumptious! The service and food were just perfect for such a busy night! Equally great was the owner Phil, came over to every table and asked how everything was. That was a nice touch. It made the whole experience more personal and welcoming. I have to mention once again our amazing waitress Hope. I would highly recommend this place and definitely will come back again. I should also mention that their menu changes every Wednesday to a different state along with their regular menu. One suggestion is to offer coffee on the menu to go with those...
Read moreStopped by this afternoon to finally try this new establishment. Loved the idea of all ingredients being domestic and each dish paying homage to a city/state. America baby!
The first round started with 5 cocktails and a few appetizers for us to share as while contemplating what to order, we noticed that the proportions were huge. Started with the Maple Glazed Tuna Wontons with a Pear and Pecan Chicken Salad. We were at a loss of words, how fresh and succulent everything was. The Maple did not overpower the Tuna wantons with mango salsa. The Pear and Pecan chicken salad had the perfect combination in the lavender honey vinaigrette that every bite left you wanting more.
For drinks, we had a Gold Rush Martini, John Daily, Burnt Sugar Old Fashioned, and a Spiced Pear Gin Martini. All dangerous because they are perfectly mixed and you'll want more!
For Entrees, we had the New York Deli Pastrami Sandwich, Filet Mignon Philly Cheesesteak, Brisket Horderadish Stack, Cherry wood Smoked Burger and the Smokehouse Combo BBQ combo. Everything was cooked to perfection and was bursting with flavor. Some ate everything while a few had leftovers.
The service was top-notch. The owner checked on every table and was helping the wonderful bartender, and it was very busy on a Wednesday afternoon. The head chef was at the bar working on perfecting his next Roadtrip specials menu.
A little bummed out that we could not order off the Wyoming menu today, but excited to try the Utah...
