So this was a random visit based on a google search for Indian food nearby. It was Saturday night around 6-7. The place isn’t welcoming and had a dull ambience for an Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi restaurant. Never the less we decided not to judge based on what we see but on how good the food tastes. The place had just around 10 -12 people for a Saturday night which I found to be another red flag. You would expect a restaurant to have at least 70-80% occupancy on a weekend. The staff did not seem to be not very much interested in anything going on. They had a dinner buffet which we had to go with because they apparently did not do a la carte when they had a buffet, another red flag. Regardless, we still decided to go with flow. So as I am scouting around the spread, the food looks simple, nothing fancy, with typical buffet menu. The salad which had iceberg lettuce and some other mixes seemed aged and dried out, not very appealing for something that is kept right at the start. The chicken dishes, Tandoori and Chicken Tikka Masala were way below average, tandoori seemed to bad tasting and most of us merely left it after the first bite. The yogurt raita had gone sour and bad and the staff had no clue about it. The vegetable pakoras were ok, but more dough and less veggies in it. The only reason I had those were, because they were freshly made and were hot. The Palak Paneer (Cottage cheese in spinach gravy) was really pathetic. It was very obvious that there was hardly any spinach in it and more of some substitute like maybe kale. The dal makhani was the only item that I found to be Ok-ish. The Naan (bread) was thick, thankfully hot but nowhere resembled a Naan. The worst part was they charged us for it…!!! I mean, it defeats the purpose of a buffet…So after having just one piece of naan and some rice with dal makhani I decided to go for desserts. They served Suji ka Halwa( cracked wheat pie made with milk and ghee). IT WAS COLD…!!! These people clearly have no clue how things should be served. This dessert is supposed to be served warm/hot. One bite and I’m done. I did not have the courage to have another bite of Tandoori Grill.. This restaurant clearly lacks the flair, inspiration and the idea of the customer expectations. Clearly a let down for Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi cuisine. The owners should seriously focus on improvising the quality on everything as this place clearly lacks standards.
So for a score card on the overall experience:
Food: 1/5 Ambience: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Value for Money: 1/5 ($15 bucks...
Read moreMy husband and I went there for dinner on September 4 2016. What a disappointment we had there. Specially since we were very keen to try it out after finding there is a halal Pakistani resturant in Lake George during our recent Labor Day trip. It was an utter disappointment. The buffet menu had NOT a single well cooked dish. Plain rice seemed a leftover from previous buffets, they smelled and tasted a bit weird. Chicken karahi, which every chicken karahi buff can recognise even blindfolded was more of chicken shorba (gravy). Who keeps gravy in karahi? Aloo gobhi, normally cooked dry was also immersed in a sea of gravy and oil. Same for mutter paneer, both the peas and cheese were swimming in a sea of thin gravy. The Naan was uncooked with raw uncooked and sticky dough peeping at us from the middle of the naan. There was not a single Pakistani dessert... no zarda, kheer, sheer khurma, trifle, shahid tukray or any other classic South Asian desserts. You won't believe what the resturant passed off as a Pakistani dessert... some tinned fruit mixed with heavy cream. They labelled it Sweet Lips and made a fool of the customers. There was not a single mutton or beef dish. My husband asked the owner why they were not serving any mutton and beef, they said at the price they charge (more on that later), they can't offer Mutton or beef. What a joke. When my husband asked the owner about the low quality of food, the owner just seemed to shrugg it off and the cook, who claimed he knew everything about Pakistani cooking started picking a fight with my husband for daring to criticize his cooked food. Oh boy. And the bill? $17/ person... at this price they can't offer any mutton or beef? And have only 3 chicken dishes.. what are they hoping? To charge $50/person to include mutton and beef in the menu? Here in NJ, we pay $18/ person at Shahnawaz banquet and they offer about a 100 wonderfully cooked and nicely presented Pakistani dishes. And mind you Tandoori Grill does not offer the a la carte menu at all for dinner ( that is what the owner told us) so it is not as if we had the choice of ordering something else at the restaurant. Tandoori grill owners are taking advantage of their location where there is scarcity of good halal Desi resturants and doing a half hearted job with lack of professionalism. Will never ever go there again, would rather have a veggie Pizza from Pizza Hut....
Read moreWe were in the Lake George for the long weekend and i don't know why i craved for some rice and curry. Looked up in google and found two choices. One did not have a single good review so ended up going to Tandoori Grill. I looked up in yelp and saw some bad and good reviews. i thought to myself how bad it can be. I was very very wrong! The worst decision ever made and we regret it everyday. We reached there to see almost all the Buffet dishes were empty. We too some rice and asked the lady in the counter and she they will be refilling it. So we waited. By the time there were more and more people coming up. Finally when they brought food, there were no plates, or spoons. The food served second time was so watery. The chicken was stale and tasted awful. I have never had such worse Indian food in my whole life. Chicken tikka was so bad that i cannot even describe it. I can't believe someone can make this bad indian food. Above all the experience there was horrible.. chaotic and messed up environment. People were so rude. One guy was trying to snatch the spool from my hand when i was trying to get some Dhaal. May be they were all impatient waiting for the food. I can see many people complaining about the empty dishes in the reviews and the management makes no effort to improve it. Finally all we could get was some rice, dhaal and raita for 12.99+tax per person. While leaving we told the lady at the counter that they should plan well for buffet and her reply was ' We are Human Beings and cannot plan for everyone'. Come on lady you are not the only person running Buffet restaurants in this world. No Buffets are prepared based on orders or appointments. What a nasty behavior. No wonder this place is so messed up. We both had upset stomach next day. I do not know how some people has give 4 stars for this restaurant. They are totally misleading. I ended up going there reading those reviews. No one again should be fooled by those reviews. That's the reason why i am posting an elaborate review. Stay away from this place if you do not want to spoil your vacation. If they had maintained and planned it well, this place would had been awesome spot. But based on the reply from the lady i do not see any chance of...
