Stayed one night because of a snowstorm had no clue I was walking into an American oasis. I was just searching for a decent hotel because of cold snowy winter night time driving conditions. I was transformed into a classic hotel experience I will never forget.
Warm, inviting, lit up for 🎄 Christmas. Friendly front desk Becca treated me above and beyond before I got in the door. Discovered the Teddy Roosevelt's Restaurant with a view of the snow covered Adirondack mountain peaks and Lake George. The mountains and Lake George are also destinations itself. Put all that together, truly, this Holiday Inn offered an outstanding value at the price.
Dinner charged to the room from TR's Restaurant was delicious. At first I didn't realize I was in Teddy 's restaurant or see the view from the dining room until morning. Then it sunk in, I was at a special hotel in a location that was named for both King George and President Roosevelt.
I checked in went to my room and by the time I unpacked and relaxed, a nice young lady delivered me a delicious meal from Teddy Roosevelt's Restaurant on a silver covered plate on a large tray directly to my room. I ate it on the couch privately in front of the TV and went to sleep short after a long day. The meal was delicious and the service made me feel special.
I had a balcony with fresh air and a view of Lake George and the pool. For an affordable cost. If this was summer time, this place would be buzzing with the pool and lake there. I would absolutely come back in the summer to swim and get a first floor balcony where you can walk to the pool lake or town right out your balcony. It would be a winter or Christmas paradise this resort, since there is high elevation and lots of chance of snow to give you that special winter vacation you want.
The rooms are quality despite the property being classic. The facility and the room are in great condition and well kept by a team that is very experienced and professionally behaved. The only thing about it you might notice is it has a bath tub and not one of those chic standing showers of new hotels is dated. If they upgrade that their room would be 5 stars not 4. The rest of the resort 5 stars, 6 stars if I could cheat and add more I'm telling you, I have circumnavigated the East Coast and this is a top 3 value as an overall value location the Lake George Holiday Inn, has a special thing going on.
Location is outstanding. Gigantic snow covered Adirondack mountain peaks, Lake George can make them into a mirror off the water. Fit for King George, T.R. and I Chairman Emeritus Sir Augustine. The town is safe and quiet but has a lot of nice places to eat. I wish I could have stayed longer. I would gladly go back if I wanted to vacation in Lake George or in any hotel in America just to get away and relax for a good price, this is one of the places I would go to. I hear there are only 6 or 7 other holiday inn resorts like this on Planet Earth, so there's value here in the amenities.
Extra kudos for the balcony, allowing me to open the window and get some fresh air. Almost never get to open the window at hotels and I hate that, was so glad to open the window even in the winter for some fresh air especially after room service has to clean up after the last guest and you can still smell the products, having a balcony clears all that you get at any hotel out and you can breathe nice!
Mountain fresh air was so clean and nice by the lake up there unlike the city. I would stay longer but a blizzard was coming and I have to go work South.
I am only a Chairman, but I stayed at a standard of President Teddy Roosevelt last night. It was special.. Thanks to Becca, the bartender, the omelette chef, and the two waitresses from T.R.'s who served me. Merry Christmas! Thanks for taking such good care of me.
I hope T.R. restaurant location lasts another 100 years for this place's honor, that's how classy it is. God bless your location and the people working there thank you! 🙏 Hope to return one day :)

Read moreI used to come to this hotel as a kid, and decided to bring some friends up here on our roadtrip. We really enjoyed having a sleepover-style stay in the bunk bed suite, early morning dips in the heated pool, and our meals at TR’s. The view of the lake from this hotel is amazing, and we loved the outdoor seating. The bathroom was a little run down and lacked a fan, which was a bit of a struggle with more than one person staying in the room, but it wasn’t a major issue for us.
My big concern is an incident that occurred with the night shift desk attendant on Oct 8. We were having a great time until they soured it with a really unkind attitude and unwarranted hostility.
In the evening, we called down to see if laundry machines were available. We were met with attitude immediately - She was first going back and forth on whether it was even offered, and then insisted that laundry is only available to guests (we called using the in-room phone)… Very confusing interaction but we brushed it off.
Then, I had to go to the desk to get quarters for the machines. I waited as this individual was in the middle of a shift change with another employee. The other employee looks up and stops their conversation, asking how she can help. I ask if I can either charge some coins for laundry to my room or exchange my $20 cash for coins. The night shift worker interrupted the other coworker to say “we don’t do that kind of thing here”, as though my question was ridiculous. It was so snippy that the other employee that was about to leave physically jumped.
The problem is, the only coin machine (in the arcade) didn’t take $20’s, and their ATM didn’t allow me to take out less than $20. So I returned, apologizing and asking what we could do, since I needed to break my bill somehow. She got really irritable and rolled her eyes at me and essentially talked to me like a kid, saying “I’ll give you a $10 roll, BUT THATS IT” (not a lot considering we had 3 people and a wash and dry is $4). I was really confused as to where the hostility came from, as the hotel was virtually empty and by that point shift change was over.
It was late and I didn’t want to deal with confrontation, so I left it at that. Well, the dryers didn’t function as intended, so the one person who did do laundry left the hotel in the morning with dripping wet clothes. I wish we had waited and hadn’t bothered with the laundry!
Overall, most of the staff was amazing and we enjoyed our room. However, the lack of functional amenities and randomly hostile behavior from that employee really turned us off, and I’m not sure that I will be returning again. I don’t think we did anything at all to warrant that behavior, and it really ruined our fun on the last night. I guess I just don’t understand, why go into hospitality if you can’t...
