When I pass through Baldwinsville mainly to see my mom, I like to get a B’ville pizza. I’m from Bville and the pizza industry was always extremely cut throat when I was a kid. I graduated in 2004 and I worked at most of the pizza spots mainly as a delivery driver. Joe was the first person I worked for when I was 15 with working papers. I also worked for Sals, Pizza Man, Gino & Joes, Hometown Pizza (now known as Average Joes) & Little Caesars back when it was in Smiths Plaza.
I was grabbing a pizza from all of those places (except LC’s 🤣) fairly regularly and just keeping it on repeat but was noticing a fall in quality from all my old work locations. I hadn’t visited Dough boys since my father passed away about 5 years ago, Then I remembered where it All started, and it was at Dough Boys. My Father used to always order from Dough boys specifically the meat ball pizza. He loved the fact the meatballs were always home made (like his own) & made by his mother who comes in to help in the early mornings. For almost 30 years she has been by Joe (the owner) side helping her son perfect and maintain his craft.
We were so happy to have gone back. When you walk in you might as well be in the kitchen. The shop was comfortable for a summer day and everyone was super nice and personable. The pizza shop was SPOTLESS from top to bottom!! Really impressed to see that. Was in and out in 5 mins.
The food was perfect. On point and incredible taste. I was fighting my wife for the last slice and there were 0 leftovers to be had. The dough is always perfect; a crunch at first but a nice soft foldable NY style slice. The wings were crispy as ordered and even though the sauces got switched on the wings, everything was still insanely delicious. We couldn’t find anything to complain about if we tried and we will most certainly not order from anywhere else in Baldwinsville from now on. He remembered me from working there and my family from being his customers. He thanked me personally for ordering and gave me coupons. Can’t ask for much more than that....
Read moreI'll start by saying the food was delicious and the staff were extremely nice. It's the best pizza my family has had in the area and the closest we've had to NYC pizza.
Order: We ordered the Bella Grey and the New Yorker.
Flavor: The New Yorker was simple but delicious with bits of roasted garlic. I like garlic and would like more roasted garlic than the bits that were on there, but the flavor was still good. The bread also tastes like bread rather than cardboard that seems to be common in the area. The Bella Grey was good, but it came with Alfredo sauce that seemed a bit light on the parmesan. Toppings were a bit spread, but it seems like either a little more toppings or more parmesan would have fixed that.
Crust: The dough in the center gave in when picked up and the dough closer to the edge of the crust was more solid. I would like more toppings, but I understand that the pizza wouldn't hold together. For those that care about the toppings sliding off, you would need a thicker dough. With that said, the slice held together when folded which solves most issues with NYC style pizzas. I personally don't care if the crust can hold everything, I will always prefer more toppings.
Quality: There seems to be some care put into the dough in terms of how the dough was made and how it's cooked. A stone oven is used and the result is a crust that tastes like bread.
Staff: The staff were friendly over the phone and in store. Over the phone they were asked if we had ordered from them before, explained their restaurant, and mentioned their 'A' health inspection rating. In store, they explained how they made the pizzas which is what sets them apart from the other pizzarias. The owner also mentioned that if we wanted to get our pizza extra crispy, we just needed to ask. The crispiness is made to order.
Despite my concerns with flavor, everything else made the experience a good one. I rounded my score up to a five since I can't give it a 4.7 and giving a rating of 4.0 wouldn't be fair in this case.
I will be ordering...
Read moreThe owner of this joint took my order when I called in. He seemed like a very nice guy and I could tell he was proud of his restaurant. The price was fair. The pizza was FANTASTIC. I was a little put off by the Red onion though. Usually when people order onion on their pizza they're expecting White or Yellow onion. A Red onion works on a Salad or Sandwich due to it's sweetness, but on a pizza? I'm not sure about that. Otherwise though the pizza was really perfect. The crust was just right and the sauce was super flavorful. I loved it.
Now, the salad on the other hand left a lot to be desired. It was a simple diner salad granted, but c'mon dude you have to put more than a slice of cucumber and a tiny little tomato on there. HERE is where the Red onion should go and maybe a sliver of Green Pepper or something. If the dinner salad was more on point you just might have got a 5 star out of me, but I can only gove you a 4.
Maybe next time, cuz I'm definitely gonna order...
