If you are looking for hearty, homestyle Italian dining, Auggie's is your place! A delightful gem tucked away in Larchmont, Auggie's encapsulates the soul of family-style Italian cuisine, like few others. Step inside Auggie's and be welcomed by the enticing aromas of simmering sauces, bubbling cheese, and herbs whispering tales of the Italian countryside. Its lively ambiance, with a cordial staff radiating warmth, feels like a gathering at a long-lost relative's home – welcoming, comforting, and filled with anticipation for a magnificent feast. Beware, the menu here does not understand modesty when it comes to portions. When Auggie's proclaims 'family-style,' they mean it in the most generous sense. Gargantuan portions! A single order, modestly priced around $30, can satisfy a small family. This bountiful tradition applies to their takeout as well, making it an ideal choice for those celebrations or perhaps those mid-week 'no cooking' days. The pièce de résistance that you must indulge in is their Shrimp & Mussels Fra Diavolo. A symphony of seafood, it's a hearty platter that sails you to the coastal regions of Italy. Savory, spicy, and abundant with fresh shrimp and mussels, the Fra Diavolo sauce enrobes every morsel with a zing that lingers pleasantly on your palate. If the antipasto is the overture of your Auggie's experience, then the desserts are the perfect crescendo. The cannoli, in particular, is a duo of sweet delights that's as impressive as the main courses. But rest assured, unlike the main dishes, the desserts are portioned for individual indulgence – unless, of course, you decide to partake in the large, shareable cannoli. Whether you're hankering for a comforting meal or seeking an enjoyable dining experience, Auggie's truly delivers. It's a must-visit dining spot that robustly upholds the traditions of Italian family dining in a modern,...
Read moreMeh. Just meh. First time ever at Augie’s, never been to the old one, figured I’d order basic stuff and gauge it from there. The beans in my pasta fagioli were still somewhat hard and I’m more than well aware that each region differs from one another but I’ve never had carrots in pasta fagiloi before. For entrees my friend had Chicken Scarpiello and I had a margarita pizza. The chicken, which I also tried was not in chunks, nor on the bone, as it should be, and the sauce absolutely lack luster, but the biggest offense was the diced peperoncini peppers, NOT cherry peppers. THEY ARE SOOO DIFFERENT, PEOPLE! Cherry peppers are meaty and are the base of the sauce. The pizza was thick, almost like it had been frozen, and not thin crust at all, more like pan pizza from Little Caesar’s tasteless, and had giant slimy slices of what appeared to be beefsteak tomatoes? Not at all traditional, nor good, service was less than meh, I don’t normally expect much from Monday afternoon but this dude gave minus F*cks. I give honest reviews of Italian restaurants more than other restaurants because as a person with an Italian family background, and a much better cook than those guys in the kitchen, I hate these restaurants declaring how “authentic” they are and insulting all of our intelligences. Waste of money, truly. I was raised on La Manda’s and P&D and just because Augies moved into the village of Larchmont doesn’t make it...
Read moreWe had dinner on Tuesday 05/20/25. I felt I required a P.H.D. to understand the menu/ordering procedure. Tuesday nights they offer a two for one deal where they provide an appetizer, meal, and dessert for 2 people for roughly $42, but the caveat is you have to order the same thing. If you want to order separate items, you can pay an extra $22.
We all opted to get individual meals. The server asked, "Do you want a half portion or full portion?" When I asked what the difference was, he said, "You get a side dish with the full portion." That response was misleading. Three out of four of us ordered full portions, and they came with huge amounts that no server could realistically expect one individual to finish. They also came with exorbitant prices. The one person in our group who ordered the half portion got pasta with her meal, so a side dish WAS included.
As far as quality goes, the meatballs were very tasty, but the chicken piccata was mediocre. The texture of the chicken was dry and not fresh tasting.
It was nice getting together with our friends, but not worth traveling an hour...
