We arrived at The Brickyard Tavern at 4pm on a Saturday. Only one high-top had 2 customers at it and there was 1 person at the bar, who turned out to obviously be a 'regular'. He was vocal about his standing in the establishment volume wise and also as we departed with an inappropriate comment clearly showing he was intoxicaxted, which could have ended differently had my 6'5, 280 lb. husband chosen to address it. Such restraint! Anyway, full disclosure I'm a Doordash driver and have been here several times for deliveries AND the only reason we came here for a meal is that we received a gift certificate for here in Christmas of 2023 that we really needed to use. The place has always had a decent crowd, so one would assume they're doing something right, right? Personally, I think they're surviving because they're one of a few restaurants in a very small town (population 5100). When you walk through the entry way to get to the door, you walk through the 'patio'. Forgive me I forgot to take pic but you are NOT missing anything. The space would be wonderful if it was used right. Instead it has 5 round metal tables with a few chairs strewn around. No upkeep at all. I've been a Doordash driver for 4-5 years and it's always looked this way. Inside isn't very inviting either, but it is clean. There isn't any natural light other than the 3 window across the front of the building. Seeing as the restaurant runs deep and not wide, both natural and electric lighting is poor. The seating available is the bar or high-top tables unless you call to reserve one of the 3 standard tables in the back of the restaurant that are situated between the hallway to the restrooms on one side and the hallway/area the waitresses use to the kitchen on the other. As for the meal. The menu was all over the place. In that I mean that they had everything from wontons to Mexican to meatloaf to pizza and everything in between! To the point you really don't have a clue how fresh things are or what they're micro defrosting to cook on the spot. We decided to do something we've never done before because we didn't really care for setting, the menu or Roger the regular at the bar so we ordered to go and had drinks and an app there. I ordered a whiskey sour, hubby had 2 Michelobe Ultra. He was safe, I ended up having 2, which were like completely different drinks with neither 'right'. Now we had to use the gift certificate or we really would have not stayed. Hubby ordered steak sandwich with peppers, onions and sauce, with a container to go. lol I ordered safe and got fried dumplings with sweet/spicy sauce, because I knew they would be frozen, for the restaurant and a capresse salad to go. Dumplings were as expected, frozen and dipping sauce bottled but for $13 I'd rather have had them at home in the air fryer than oil. $20 steak sandwich with fries had decent flavor but very small for the price. Hubby said that while it wasn't the worst, there are other places that he would much rather have. My salad was actually pretty good. Everything was fresh, balsamic vinegaret was good, portion was huge and price was great at $16. While I wouldn't go back to the restaurant itself, I would get the salad again. Now the kicker of the visit was the bill and the gift certificate that was for $100. The bill came to $91+. Most establishments will give you cash back if there is less than $10 left on the certificate. It was just going to be part of the waitresses tip. Not here! They don't refund any of the balance of a gift certificate in cash no matter how small it is. I was dumbfounded. So we had to order a dessert for $7 because we didn't want to forfeit the cash and we were definitely not going back. Most likely the piece of pie we bought will get thrown out and it's a shame. Their 'policy' didn't work for them, us or their employee, because that policy sadly had a trickle down effect as far as their business practices, customer satisfaction and employee tip. As always, we did tip 20%, I wish she had gotten the...
Read moreI have been a patron of the Brickyard since they opened and was excited to try out their mother's day buffet. I made a reservation as suggested. my party included 7 adults and 6 children, 3 of them that required a highchair. When I originally made my reservation I asked if I should bring my portable highchair as I knew they only had 2 but was told that Ron was going to get more or the waitress I was speaking with was going to bring one she had purchased that attached to the chair.
When I got my confirmation call on Saturday I double checked about the highchairs and was told "all good".
When we arrived on Sunday morning we were brought to a high top table with 2 highchairs that were for a regular height table. when we asked how this was supposed to work all we were told was "sorry it's all we can do" when asked why we were not seated in the back at regular height table we were told there was not enough room for our party size, yet there was a table back there the exact size of ours. Luckily I brought my portable seat and asked about the chair that waitress had told me she was going to bring that attached to the chair and was told it wasn't brought because it wasn't needed.
At this point I'm an extremely frustrated and angry. I'm speaking with Tracy, Rons wife, trying to figure out and understand how this seems to be ok with them as restaurant owners as well as parents of a young child and I asked her how she would feel if she were seated at a restaurant with their young child in this situation and her words to me were "I would of made sure before coming" I HAD 3 PREVIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH THIS PLACE MAKING SURE THERE WERE ENOUGH HIGHCHAIRS, EVEN BRINGING MY OWN AFTER BEING TOLD WE WERE "ALL GOOD"!
As stated before I have been a patron of this establishment celebrating birthdays, date nights, dinner with friends, football sundays and even togo lunches, but after this encounter I will not be visiting again. The amount of unprofessionalism and unwillingness to help and try and rectify the situation was very...
Read moreI’ll start off saying that I can not comment on service of the restaurant staff or the environment of the restaurant as I placed my order via Door Dash. So this is strictly based on the food and prices.
The food isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t go out and say it’s great either. It seriously “is what it is”, and upon receiving my order I was kind of disappointed. I ordered the steak and shrimp and was expecting a slightly larger piece of steak and shrimp that doesn’t look like it just came from the bag- I was expecting a little seasoning or something on the shrimp. But it tastes fine, so no issues regarding taste. Was just expecting a more flavorful experience. It came with a run of the mill veggie selection, standard veggie mix. And Mac and cheese that isn’t bad, but doesn’t stand out from the Mac and cheese offerings of other local restaurants- including one just pretty much kiddy corner from Brick Yard. Again, not bad- but nothing that stands out, especially from other restaurants in town.
I ordered my boyfriend the philly cheese steak sandwich and he said it wasn’t bad but was just what it was. He’s had worse, but also had better.
I know Door Dash does inflate prices and charges fees, and the whole “price of convenience” thing- but my order for the two meals was nearly $50 and it just really wasn’t worth it for food that literally is what it is. Nothing to write home about and probably wouldn’t think of ordering from again.
The food just seems bland and uninspired. Not bad but plain. Very disappointed for...
