Had a good enjoyable lunch at Iron Roost today with my sister, until I checked the bill. Beware!! The menu prices are not always what they charge.
We ordered BLT’s with wheat bread. The bill showed the price of two BLT’s at $15 which was what the menu said. However they added $4 because we asked for wheat bread!!!
The menu did not say anything about a fee if you wanted bread rather than their waffle thing.
Tea was $3 and soda about $2.75. Plus a charge for using a credit card without any sign about a credit card fee. Since I had to pay for our food before I saw and ate it, I reluctantly left a tip Of 20%. I told the cashier I was not use to giving a tip before I saw the service and she said service would be good. I am sorry I wasted my 20% after getting my food and bill.
Our BLT had one or two strips of bacon, it was hard to see and count but not like the BLT’s I am use to with 5 or so pieces of bacon in the restaurants I usually eat go to in Glens Falls.
We both felt the $27 was way over priced for what we got. Admittedly, I do not eat out much; only 3 to 4 times per week, but I felt Iron Roost’s prices are too high for their self order-from-the-counter set up or quality of food.
I am amazed the people who live in Ballston continue to frequent this restaurant. My sister and I grew up in Ballston and enjoy returning to BS frequently but will not go to the Roost again👎. From Two dissatisfied customers who...
Read moreThis was a really fun breakfast place with good coffee and wide variety of sweet and savory waffles. The decor is industrial hipster: exposed brick, chalkboards, books, rolls of brown paper. The staff was charming and friendly, helping us navigate the menu and coffee choices.
The ordering process is like fast food, though the food is delivered to your table after after you place your order. The menu is on the wall so you can decide before you arrive at the counter. A staff person greets you in line to take your drink order, which is at the counter by the time you place the order. That way you can take your drink to your table where the wait person will bring your food when it's ready.
The food was delish. My friends ordered sweet waffles with fantastic potatoes on the side. My husband and I ordered the same savory waffles, but mine was gluten-free. They will make any of the waffles gluten-free; they even have a dedicated waffle maker to protect against cross contamination.
Overall, we had a delightful time. When I am next in the area, I will absolutely eat...
Read moreUpdated: Tried a second time, determined to give the Iron Roost a fair shot. Unfortunately, I left disappointed again. I ordered the Southern Fiesta (trying to stick with a healthier option) and I've come to the conclusion that they just don't do savory well. The dish was just very bland, hardly seasoned at all. I've found decent elements in the dishes I've tried, but not enough to make me want to come back. Perhaps we just have different tastes, being from the Midwest originally.
After being talked up by all our friends, we finally made it to the Iron Roost, expecting everything to be delicious. We had mixed results. The bananas foster was great, would definitely get again. My egg sandwich was another story. The waffles tasted as if they had been made two days before and were so bland I ended up only eating the egg and sausage from my sandwich. For a place that centers around waffles so heavily, I couldn't believe how bad these waffles were for my meal. If that had been all we'd ordered today, we probably would not want...
