Went during the Winter Festival with my partner, and we stopped at this restaurant to eat because I thought it might be good. Almost immediately after we entered the restaurant I felt that the vibe was off. It was nice to be able to have been sat down immediately, but after further observation they had cash only and an automatic 20% gratuity added onto the bill.
The wait staff and our waitress all very much seemed dissatisfied with being at that establishment, and some of those feelings definitely rubbed off on the customers, as well as us. Our waitress was very blunt, but it seemed like she had our best interest in mind. Although as we continued to eat and later pay it did not seem that way. My partner asked for some more ranch for her meal, and the waitress came over with ketchup then rolled her eyes when she realized it was supposed to be ranch. She totally forgot about it and came back later saying "Sorry for the long wait they just finished making it". This was also during lunch time, so it kind of rubbed me the wrong way that they would be out of ranch at this time.
The food itself for us wasn't bad at all and very filling. I ordered the chicken parmigiana ($20) and my partner got the chicken tenders and fries ($13). Chicken parm itself was a very large portion of chicken and a small side of spaghetti with a choice of normal sauce or meat sauce. I chose the meat sauce and it was very good and you're given a generous amount. I enjoyed the flavors that my meal offered and my plate was clean. I'm assuming this is temporary from what the waitress said, but they only have bottled products when we came due to their tap filter being in need for repairs, but $2.85 for a bottle of water isn't that bad, but maybe its personal preference I prefer tap.
During the end of our time dining when we paid the bill our waitress asked if we wanted change, and I said yes. Our bill was $52.10 and I put $62 for a $10 dollar difference. In response our waitress rolled her eyes that I would want change and said "I don't know people been bringing in hundreds". In the end we got our change and left. In summary the food was nothing to complain about, but the vibe, customer service, and atmosphere could all be improved to make this place a more family Italian restaurant. This is definitely a restaurant that I will probably not come back to unless the...
Read moreLooks like ours is an unpopular opinion of this establishment. We were staying in the area for the weekend and decided to give Nonna Fina's a try. As we walked in, there was a sign stating they only accepted cash or check. Not a problem - it was nice that we knew that going in. For those who don't carry cash - have no fear there is an ATM in the lobby. We sat at a table by the window and had a lovely view of Lake Saranac and our hotel. When asked what we would like to drink - said we were good with just water thank you. The waitress brought over two bottles of Disani - not explanation for why bottled and not tap but okay. For our dinner we ordered eggplant Parm hero with extra sauce (12 inch size) and a cheese calzone. I asked if the calzone came with a side of sauce and the waitress said you can have that. Okay, great. Food came and the eggplant hero was very skimpy and dry. Tried to get the waitress attention to no avail. My husband went to the pizza counter and politely asked for the additional sauce and they told him she put it on there. Husband said that it was very dry and they reluctantly gave him a small amount of sauce. We ate our dinner. The eggplant was not very good and actually looked like it was not freshly made - like something you get from the freezer section of the supermarket. The calzone was just okay. We asked for the check and when I went to pay, I felt that the bill was a little high so I looked it over and to my surprise they not only charged of for the two bottles of water (okay, I understand), the extra sauce for both my husband ($1.75) and mine ($1.25) they had the nerve to add in an 18% tip to the bill. I have never heard of a restaurant doing that for a party of just 2. Had I not checked that, the waitress would have received that 18% plus a 20% tip I normally leave. I felt that was very tricky on their part. After catching it I just left the total on the bill and no more. So - my advice to anyone going here - be prepared, ask questions about what it is you get and if there are any extra charges. And most importantly, be aware that they sneak the tip onto...
Read moreWe stopped here during Winter Carnival before going to hear some music. We were seated right away, as there were only a few other tables occupied. A few minutes later the waitress took our drink order and said she'd be back shortly. When the drinks arrived, we weren't given the opportunity to order, but waited at least 20 minutes to order our meal. We ordered garlic knots which came 5-10 minutes later. They were tasty. no doubt. However about 30 minutes later, the waitress came back by and asked us what we ordered....not realizing whether or not she had submitted the order to the kitchen. She came back k and said "two minute warning ", which we took to mean our food was almost ready. However 5 minutes later she came back and apologized that they had a huge take-out order that was backing the kitchen up. We asked if it would be faster to just get some pizza at that point. She assured us our meals were almost ready. I was getting annoyed because at this point we were missing the music we planned on attending. After 10 more minutes, we got up, approached the bar where the waitress and, we assumed one of the kitchen staff were sitting. We asked what we owed them for the garlic knots. The waitress jumped up and said they were ready to bring our plates. At this point it had been well over an hour and we were done. She offered to box it and when we declined, the kitchen staff person gruffly said that the ticket just got put in 15 minutes ago...to which we replied "we've been here over an hour and we have other things to do". He continued to argue the time frame with us as we walked out the door. They definitely will not get another...
