I used to frequent this place when I worked local and it was a 2nd best to Katz's deli which is a big compliment. It was always a special treat. I have not been at the Kensington Deli in several years. Maybe as long a pre covid.
Yesterday I was back in town and knew where I was getting lunch. I ordered ,my usual Kosher deli go to, a hot dog with Mustard and Kraut and a Corned Beef Sandwich on Rye with mustard. All I can say that's positive it I think the Mustard is the same as it used to be.
The hot dog was luke warm inside and the outside not charred. There was no pop on the first bite. Had I not already paid, I would have cancelled my Corned Beef sandwich when saw them take a deli paper wrapped portion (small portion) of corned beef and pop it into a microwave and then put the whole paper wrapped portion into a panini press-what the hell?
The corned beef was obviously machine sliced as no human can slice meats that thin. The sandwich was not worth the 25 cents I put in the meter to park outside on Middle Neck Road. The sour pickles were so rubbery that I took one bite and tossed the rest. I am in sales and travel a lot and I have my spots when I work in certain areas. Sadly, this place has now been crossed off the list. I hope I save someone else the disappointment of a place that has fallen from a great place to look foreword to eating, to a place to avoid.
I am not sure if it was sold, or maybe they dropped the quality of the ingredients to "make a profit" but I paid 21 dollars, plus tax for a sandwich and a HD and I wish I went somewhere else. If the food were as good as I remembered, I could have accepted the pricing.
On the plus site, the staff is a nice and as friendly as can be,
I hope the ownership reads this and fixed the problems for...
Read moreYes… this place really is this good! … firstly, I’m not a relative of the owner (met the owner, Joe, and he’s a really nice fellow)… I’m a regular first time ever customer! I HAVE FOUND MY HAPPY PLACE… my wife and I are active seniors and we eat out often… we know a few things about dining out and this place has got to be “on your bucket list”! Why, you ask… well, we tried a variety of different menu items from pastrami to tounge, potato salad, a frankfurter, sauerkraut… and everything was DELICIOUS! … I’m not talking good, I’m talking great! Pastrami was “over the moon”, the tongue was splendiferous, the potato was mind blowing and guess what… everything was so good you didn’t need to add ketchup or anything to it! I know your time is valuable so let’s get down to VALUE! yep, prices… honest and true the prices are very reasonable in consideration of the quality, service and ambiance… left satiated and happy… admittedly this type of quality and presentation doesn’t come cheap but honestly… TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY… WE’LL BE BACK AND AFTER YOUR FIRST VISIT YOU’LL BE...
Read more3rd time in a row we got left over fries that were lousy..they need to reconsider serving fries that have been left out for too long..We do know the difference! The matzoh ball soup was unremarkable.
I won't even order a Pastrami sandwich anymore as the last time is was cold and of a lousy cut.
I can tell by looking at them they've gotten away with reputation for way too long..
This place has slowly deteriorated..
Won't see the likes of me and mine their...
