Lareira Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

We (2 of us) went for early dinner on a Thursday.

The overall experience was decent but a bit disappointing. The service and our waiter were nice but SUPER SLOW. There were only two tables occupied during our meal. 2 of us and the other table of 5 people.

We ordered the White Sangria (full carafe) but the waiter said we should order half (which would be 4 glasses). It was about 2 glasses in total and was not enough. It was very tasty so we ended up ordering another full glass (and overpaid).

For our meal, we ordered:

Cataplana de Marisco - it was WAY too salty - especially the sauce, the clams and mussels. The mussels had sand and was difficult to eat.

Camarao Grelhado (Cognac Shrimp) - was really good. Perfectly prepared in texture and flavor.

Paelha Marinheira (Seafood Paella) - they charged extra $24 to add Lobster for total of $49. They only added HALF of a tiny lobster for $24. Where did my other lobster half go?? Despite that disappointing surprise, it was very tasty. The mussels, again, were very sandy. Only two tiny pieces of squid. We couldn’t find ANY scallops even though the menu mentioned scallops.

We were planning to order dessert but we were tired of waiting for the waiter so we decided to call it a night.

Overall, it was a decent meal but it would not be my first...

My husband and I decided to try you .. was our anniversary.. waiter was cool/ not friendly.. my fish was fried/ very greasy.. otherwise food ok.. shrimp appetizer good.. what was concerning to us was the waiter.. after our entree was placed down.. we had no other interaction from him. A female waitress cleared the table.. another male waiter asked us about desert.. we did have desert.. and asked original waiter for check.. he never brought it.. asked other waiter and eventually got it. I asked this waiter why our waiter deserted us.. he had no answer.. pretended he did not understand English.. that waiter brought our check. All the while we can see original waiter and he brought check to 2 other tables Ignoring us. We are. In the service industry and are very tuned in to service. We are an inter racial couple and i cannot help but wonder if this was in the equation.. we were not rude and I did not complain about food even though my fish was greasy.. I do not want anything from you but to know how rude this waiter was… I can promise you do not have to worry about us returning. This was Sat. At 5 PM.. shame on him.. we felt awful...
