My wife and I went here to try to solve the fish fry debate! Is the salt and vinegar chip crust better than the beer battered?
I got the salt and vinegar fish. I had super high hopes for this being I love a strong vinegar flavor. When it came out it looked great and you could see that they used crunched up chips for this. It was a good crunchy fish fry but I didnāt notice the salt and vinegar flavor. Overall it was good but I think I had my expectations of a vinegar punch to my face haha.
My wife got the regular beer battered fish fry. This too was a good fish fry.
We both loved their tartar sauce. It had a flavoring it in that made it stand out.
As for which one is better, I canāt decide. The chip one is crunchier. If you like a crunchy breaded fish get that one, if you like beer battered get the regular. I could eat either one and be happy.
I did get the corned beef hash as my side. I was expecting home fries type potatoes with corned beef. What I got was different - it was like a corned beef stuffing in a bowl. It was ok just not what I expected. I was choosing between this and the colcannon. I wish I chose the other but more because Iāve never had it before.
They had Rueben fritters and a Rueben baked potato on the appetizer menu Iād like to try, but my wife doesnāt like sauerkraut and I wouldnāt have ate the whole thing of either so Iāll save it for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy mother came into town for a visit. I live in Caledonia. So we drove 25-30 minutes to this place because we went one when it first opened and thought we enjoyed this place, we should go back. Well we sat down and the bartender had a few customers he was tending to. Its a Monday afternoon at 5pm..nothing too crazy i think about 6-7 people hanging out in the bar area. We sat down in the dinning area right past the bar. Looked over the menus. Literally sat there for about 15 minutes while a server legitimately walked past us 7-8 times..even picked up dishes on the table of a group behind us telling them to have a goodnight still not even acknowledged us. So we started to get up and the bartender had to tell her we were waiting. By that time we just got up to walk out and the server said we are in the middle of switching shifts..well i work in customer service..during that many pass bys atleast ask if we been helped or even say something. . Like we are in the middle of shift change someone will be with you in a minute..but nothing was said until we get up to walk out. Well needless to say they lost our business. This is the reason small...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will need to visit this establishment again when they are not so busy. The initial service was solid. My rodeo burger was very delicious and the tots were on point. We ordered poutine tots to go (tots subbed for fries). When we got our bill, the poutine was missing, so I asked if our to go order was coming. Rather than comping it due to forgetting to put it in the system (we saw it get written down with our order), we received a new bill with it included. In modern times with restaurants already struggling, paying for it was totally fine, but the order came out about two minutes later and it was soggy fries with dried up cheese on two slices of Swiss cheese just thrown on top of it, not even warmed up. Again, they were busy, but this wasn't a solid way to close out the visit. We will be back during non-peak hours to see what the dish tastes like as it's supposed...
