After seeing and hearing so much rave about this place, I knew it was time to see what the hype was all about and I’m so glad we came to El Cuñao. While staying around Nyack I knew we had to stop here as part of our little food tour and exploration around town. After a cold day of walking around and wanting some chill and relax time, we decided to pick up some take out from them to eat at the hotel we were staying at. It was the PERFECT comfort food we needed on a cold day while we watched tv, hung out and relaxed in our room. It was basically that room servicefeeling feel but better haha because the food was INCREDIBLE and fully homemade. When you walk into this little unassuming hotspot, you know someone’s tia, abuela or mom is making some magic in the kitchen. It’s got such a cozy vibe and just feels like you walked into someone’s house and they’re ready to serve up something delicious and homemade. We ordered some soles and huarache with a delicious Jamaica (hibiscus) agua fresca. Everything was WOW but what truly wowed me was that the huarache was stuffed with black beans. It was incredibly delicious! What left us dreaming (til this very moment) is their delicious smokey spicy red sauce that is absolutely out of this world. I’ve never been to Oaxaca but it made me feel like I did - those flavors took me on an unforgettable taste bud journey that made all of the ingredients pop. Bottom line: yes, GO HERE. You’ll eat some of the most delicious simple, unassuming, authentic Mexican eats. It’s casual, chill and delicious!

The food was awesome! Guac and chips is awesomely seasoned, maduros is pretty appetizing too, and fish tacos was very filling as well! I’d come here again. Only thing that could use some work is the customer service brought to the table being we were the only ones in there at the time. That is why the 4 star. Customer service is everything, when you go out you expect otherwise I could of made these myself at home. The atmosphere does feel like I am not at home. Otherwise, food is great!

So good! Everything we ordered was delicious. My husband tried the chicken mole, and I had an al pastor burrito. We also tried the elotes. We opted to dine in, and the staff was kind and took great care of us. We will be returning to try their tacos next.

I’ve been going to this establishment once a week since I moved to the area…. I wanted to support a local business, however, the employees have been rude one too many times. The first 2-3 times I just shrugged it off because I get that people have bad days… but it was the 4th time that I experienced this blatant disrespect and outward rudeness that I told myself I could not continue to support this business. The employee at the register with the long hair was the last straw.

I ordered my usual with the older woman over the phone who I have spoken too multiple times (she's nice). Unfortunately the kid at the front with the long hair clearly has an issue with his attitude and demeaner. As soon as I told him i was here to pick up my order, he immediately said "oh uhh we don't have it".. He didn't even check, and then stood there staring at nothing... So I showed him my phone and also pointed to the women in the back who I spoke too (I know the woman from past experiences). He decided it would be a good idea to provide GREAT customer service by walking to the back and look around staring at space for 3 minutes rather than asking anyone about the order. I then realized the order on the counter right next to the register was mine, the receipt showed my exact order and information. So when he decided to come back to the register after doing nothing I let him know my order was right next to him.. He doesn't even look at the order and says "uh no this is tacos and quesadillas" (which I ordered). So I of course reminded him that's what I told him... He then just sat there not saying anything.. I thought I was in a movie or TV show it was that bad. I guess instead of admitting he was wrong, he thought it would be a better idea to blatantly lie instead. So I never got my food, not sure what he did with the order, maybe he took it home for dinner for himself.

Also, prices are inconsistent. I once paid $60 for 2 orders of tacos, chips and salsa. So I tell the younger woman at the register prices didn't add up. I get that inflation has cost businesses more so I understand that aspect of it.. However she was extremely rude about it. I should have walked out back then and never came back. If you don’t like being disrespected as a customer then avoid...

let me start by saying i never write reviews on restaurants. upon entering el cunao i approached the counter to place my order. i specifically ordered the carne asada tacos (which i've ordered every other time.) i sat at my table and awaited my food. the employee brought me over tacos that appeared to be a different meat. i told him that there was a mistake and i had ordered the carne asada tacos. he proceeded to argue with me that i ordered the carnitas tacos, and i asked him if he would fix it. he went back to speak to the owner and came back and told me that "once the food is prepared it can't be sent back." the pork tacos sat on the table for 5 minutes untouched before i asked the server if they planned on charging me for these. once again, he went to speak to this mysterious owner (never seen) and he came back informing that yes i had to pay for these untouched pork tacos. by the way i don't eat pork due to my religion!!! i went to the counter to speak to the owner and he started YELLING at me saying that he trusts what his worker said that i ordered the carnitas tacos. he continued by saying its MY FAULT and that i should have been more clear! disgusting ownership!!! such a shame that a place with good food has such poor management, coming from a man who's a restaurant owner himself. i'll...
