Great food....but not great service. Not worth the price.
This was our first visit to The Mansard since the new owners took over. It basically looks the same with slightly fresher look. Honestly I sort of missed the charm of the old place. The food was just as great as before (however no selection of fun rolls) but the crackers are still there. The actually dinner was very good and the food was well prepared.
Now the reason for the poor rating; the service was terrible. When I first arrived I stood at the hostess podium while workers walked by and I was ignored. I'm not sure if they assumed I was with another party or just wanted to hang out there. I ended up getting the bar tender as I had a question and she was very nice. I continued to wait at the podium while another couple that came in after me was waited on. The other couple asked if I was assisted yet and I told them no. Finally someone came over and asked if I wanted something (after I think the other couple told them). After the staff realized their mistake they were very nice; but I did wait at least five minutes without acknowledgement.
Our actual server while polite seemed very confused with everything and overwhelmed (it was not busy). She really did not explain things well when we had questions. Also we had some questions about the food which she did not know. She then also forgot to ask the chef to get our answer. She would frequently walk by...stop like she wanted to ask us a question....but didn't and then would walk away again. We noticed she also forgot stuff for other tables as well.
The service was also extremely slow. I am not sure if it was due to the waitress or if the kitchen needed help. I heard the table next to us complain to our waitress as well. Honestly we normally take about an hour to eat out (including dessert). We were here for two hours without dessert! This place was terribly slow. If it was the kitchen our waitress should have said there may be a delay.
Overall I was disappointed with our dining experience. For a place that has finer dining prices the service is subpar. The food (which was great) is the only reason for the 2 stars. I would have gave 2.5 stars but this site will not allow it. They are not a three star resturant so I also took a half a star off for not being disabled friendly. If you need a wheelchair DO NOT come here, you will not be able to get in nor use the restroom (I don't think they even had handicapped parking). I was told they are going to work on that.
I will say the bartender was the only person there I was impressed with. She seemed to actually care almost seemed like she was an owner...
Read moreKendrick Lamar said “mustard”… but I’m saying it louder: “Mansaaaard!” That’s the anthem, that’s the gospel, that’s the restaurant. Walking into The Mansard felt like stepping into Notre Dame’s locker room in 2025, right before kickoff. The energy was different. The lights hit me, the menu stared back like Marcus Freeman drawing up destiny on a whiteboard. That Weck Wednesday beef on weck for $8? Straight-up CJ Carr dropping dimes into tight windows — sharp, accurate, no wasted motion. Perfect roast beef, salty kummelweck roll, au jus on the side like an offensive line opening lanes wide open. It was a first down in sandwich form. The fried gnocchi poutine? Forget it. That was Jeremiah Love breaking tackles and cutting through defenders like cheese curds through gravy. Crispy, saucy, chaotic but controlled — it tasted like an overtime touchdown run with the whole stadium roaring. And then came the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes. That wasn’t just an entrée, that was leadership. Calm, poised, executed like Marcus Freeman on the sideline, arms folded, eyes locked in, unshakable. It had the kind of flavor that said, “We didn’t come here to participate, we came here to dominate.” The whole meal played out like four quarters of Notre Dame football — scripted, disciplined, explosive when it needed to be, but humble in its greatness. Grit in the beef. Swagger in the poutine. Legacy in the pork. Meanwhile, Miami? Don’t even get me started. They’re out here fumbling with gas station mustard packets while The Mansard is serving five-star gourmet. Miami’s program is a day-old hot dog spinning on a 7-Eleven roller, while The Mansard is a Tomahawk steak on game day. Notre Dame 2025 is the truth, and The Mansard belongs right there with them. So say it with me like Kendrick: Mansaaaard. Mansard. MANSARD. Better than mustard. Better than Miami. Better than anything else on a Wednesday...
Read moreMy wife decided to take myself and her parents to the Mansard for my birthday dinner last nite. My elderly in laws had a difficult time with no ADA access available. Many stairs necessary for entry. When we got in the tried to seat us in their smallest booth. It was ridiculously small. Upon some difficult decisions by the hostess she finally caved and seated us a table although they primarily have booths. Waitress came promptly and took drink orders. The memory I had of the Mansard included chicken almondine a signature item as stated on their menu. They were out of it. Not available on a Sat nite at 6pm! Skipped an entree and powered soup and salad. There were also two other items they were out of on the menu. Ordered meal at 6:30pm. After several visits from waitress, some with excuses for delays, we were served our meals at 8:10pm. Food was good and the waitress, upon another visit stated that the place was overwhelmed by a party of 20 upstairs. Unacceptable to treat your a few of your customers in this matter if you cannot handle your commitments. When it came to dessert they had no provision for any type of birthday wish. Ok, I get it. Not their problem but unusual for a restaurant in such a competitive market as these times offer. Lastly, dessert. Guess what. They were out of two of the seven offerings. Got the bill and left,...very disappointed an anxious to let other prospective customers of our visit and displeasure. Two out of our party did not order entrees,..bill was $171 plus tax. Terrible presentation. Have not been the for several years and nothing has changed. Not even handicap access to keep up with New York laws....
