Our utility responded to Long Island to help restore power. We had been going all day and were very hungry, there was some confusion with our host company as to where our dinner location was. We were basically on our own to find dinner and accommodations. After doing a quick search of the area we found Campagne House was close to our location and had an appropriate menu for the hungry guys that we were. We called ahead to find out when their kitchen closed for dinner and they responded that the kitchen would stop serving “dinner” at 10pm, it was 9:45. (Otherwise the menu would be just bar food) We were at least 5-10 minutes away plus parking our trucks... I explained who we were, why we were in town in hopes that they would sympathize and feed a bunch of “Hangry” guys.... Our request was quickly relayed to the chef who agreed to keep things open for an extra 10 minutes! Wow! When we finally showed up at 10:20 (a vehicle fix was needed) we fully expected to be told that the chef had gone home and it was bar food for us! Except, that was not the case at all, we were greeted with smiles, kind words, and thank you for coming to help. They were ready for us and fully prepared to feed us a hearty dinner! Another WOW! I want to point out that at no point during our meal were we rushed or made to feel that we inconvenienced them in any way. I personally had one of the best meals that I have had in a long time, and this sentiment was echoed around the table. We had a table visit from the chef and was a perfect opportunity to give the compliments he deserved. Most of us had been going from 4-5 am that morning and we did not stop until after 1:30 am. So thank you Campagne House for the much needed meal that carried us through to the end of our day. Five stars in our book, from the guys at Green...
Read moreOn a very special occasion, my fiancé and I decided to go to The Champagne House because the food rarely disappoints.
Upon arrival we were asked if we had reservations to which we replied no. The gentleman who greeted us stated that we would have to sit inside instead of the patio area because those are by reservation only. We happily agreed, even though the entire restaurant was empty and there were many open tables outside.
Our table was fairly close to the hostess stand and as other parties came in they were all escorted outside without being asked if they had a reservation. My fiance and I didn’t think much of it until the FIFTH party came in and the same person that greeted us asked if they had a reservation, they replied “no” and his follow up question was “would you like to sit inside or outside?”... At this point, I was curious to understand why.
When our food was brought to the table (45 minutes after ordering) I asked “When we came in, did you mention outside tables being by reservation only?” He said “yes, those tables were reserved for those parties.” I responded with “those available tables were given to walk-ins” and asked as to why we weren’t offered outside seating. He snarkly replied “I am not going to argue with you guys” as he walked away.
Now, perhaps it could have been overlooked but the principle of the matter is that this situation was handled inappropriately. I am not one to complain. In fact, my fiance was surprised because he knows I am a very meek person but wrong is wrong.
I am very...
Read moreThis was our first visit. Nice transformation from Whoville. The decor was nice, the wait staff was great. The outside courtyard area is very nice. When we visited, the sun was out but it had rained about an hour earlier. There were 2 groups sitting outside. I asked the hostess if the chairs were wet and she replied, "yes, a little". The correct answer should've been, "yes, but we can dry them for you". I ordered the grass fed beef burger, medium. It arrived well done. The taste was good but it was over cooked and a little dry. The fries and salad were good. My wife had the pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. Not sure if they used fresh pasta, but the pasta was way over cooked. Again, the taste was good. I had 2 local craft beers, which were good. One thing they need to stop is the smoking in the courtyard dining area. Somsone from the bar walked out into the courtyard with his bottle of miller lite and lit up. It bothered us and it bothered the other people that were sitting there eating. It would've been just as easy for him to go out on the side street to smoke. After all, like one of the other reviewers stated, "This ain't Whoville". We're going to give them another try. As with any new restaurant, they need to get the kinks out. Next time, Ill try the steak. It looked pretty good. GOOD LUCK...
