Carvel — Restaurant in Town of Oyster Bay

Sorry for only 2 stars. I'm a big fan of Carvel, but this owner needs to pay attention. I stop here often after work when I'm in the area, and the staff is always doing their best. And very polite. No problem with the staff whatsoever. But in the past, the ice cream is always too soft, but I can live with that. And I can live with the fact that the place as a whole needs to be updated, and certainly cleaner. I'm sitting in the back parking lot, looking at the dumpster area, and like none of the management or staff can take 5 - 10 minutes to pick up everything and get it into the dumpster? Another 5 -10 to organize everything thrown about. Maybe even hose everything down? OK, I can live with that also. Can't see it from my house. BUT, TWICE IN THE PAST FEW DAYS THAT I STOPPED HERE, THERE WAS NO COLD ROOT BEER. HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO MAKE A ROOT BEER FLOAT? HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO REWARD MYSELF AFTER A 90+ HUMID DAY? OK, first time, the soda dispenser machine was down. But it looks like it had been off line for awhile. They had A&W root beer in bottles, but none had been put in the cooler. Ok, the kid was doing his best, and so I took a warm rootbeer float, and waited for the almost warm ice cream to melt down. Tough times we are living in. And I politely told the young lad not to worry, but to let the higher up know that they had to get there root beer stock in order - I knew that I would be back in in a couple of days, and would be ordering the same. And on my way I went. But tonight - NO ROOT BEER AT ALL! UGH. OK, LET'S MAKE DUE WITH A COKE FLOAT. WOW, guess what. Only a half bottle of open coke was in the cooler box. And I could see it was mostly flat. They did have more coke, but it was in the back warm. New young gentleman kept trying to tell me that they had full, unopened bottles of Diet coke in the cooler - I held myself together. Ok so a large rootbeer float made with 1/2 cool but flat coke and 1/2 fresh but warm coke? Nope, but hey Ok, lets just add ice cubes to a full fresh bottle of coke. Uh, we don't have ice cubes. Of course not, what was I thinking? Ok ok ok. Went with the half flat and half warm coke and almost warm vanilla ice cream. What the heck, I was really in the need, and how bad could it be. Well, DISAPPOINTED!!!

First time I ever wrote a review. Next move, find another Carvel on the was home. Done with this place. Either that, or next time I'll bring my own ice...

AVOID this place! Stopped by this Carvel last Tues with my daughter. We walked in and stood for a few minutes wondering if anyone was there, then noticed two teenage boys sitting to the right, behind the counter, on their phones. It appeared that they were playing a game to see who had to get up and wait on us. One lost and seemed completely put out that he had to move. As my daughter and I ordered for our family, we looked into the ice cream freezer and noticed that every ice cream looked like it had been melted and refrozen. The floors were disgusting and it looked like the counters had not been wiped in days. The boy working our order had NO gloves on and we watched in disgust as he used his bare hands, that just left his phone mind you, to crush up what appeared to be cookies into my daughters Sunday dasher cup. It could have been stale cake, since it is supposed to be sponge cake in the ice cream. The boy asked if we wanted a lid on the strawberry dasher and when we said yes proceeded to try and put a flat lid on an ice cream that was probably two inches above the rim of the cup. The coffee shake had zero coffee taste to it. The chocolate Sunday had chocolate dripping down the side. The carvelanche was about an inch or two short on ice cream. We ordered 4 items and were never offered a tray or anything to carry them out. When we got in the car my daughter refused to eat the dasher and threw it out. We will never go to this Carvel again. This was not the first bad experience here but this time it was beyond ridiculous and unhealthy. I am surprised the health department hasn’t shut...

Happy Chinese New Year! Today I came in and ordered two ice cream sundaes to go that I served as dessert after a Chinese food luncheon in celebration of the holiday. BOY WAS I IN FOR A BIG SURPRISE! First of all, the employee who took care of me was super nice, helpful and extremely OVER THE TOP dedicated to making sure I would have an amazing time in his shop. Once I told him that I was serving this ice cream to celebrate the Chinese New Year, he immediately asked if he could give me some red and gold sprinkles to make these ice cream sundaes more festive! I was thrilled with what he put inside a cup to go…! Next, I would love to express my gratitude to how I was treated for this entire experience. I wish that I asked for this employee’s name because he truly was remarkable and professional in every way. Finally, the results: My friend and I LOVED the ice cream sundaes with soft vanilla and chocolate ice cream, delicious and artful sprinkles and hot fudge. It definitely could not have been a better idea than to come into this location of Carvel. I highly recommend this place if you want to have a delightful uplifting experience with your ice cream selection! 100% awesome!!!!!!! Five stars all...
