Bakhtar Afghani Restaurant – A Hidden Gem of Authentic Afghan Cuisine Halal restaurant I had the pleasure of dining at Bakhtar Afghani Restaurant recently, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and the inviting aroma of grilled meats and spices made it clear we were in for something special. The hospitality was top-notch. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to recommend popular dishes. We felt truly welcomed, as if we were guests in someone’s home. We started with the Bolani, a traditional Afghan stuffed flatbread, which was perfectly crispy and flavorful. Then came the mantu – Afghan dumplings filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with yogurt and split peas – absolutely delicious and delicate in flavor. The highlight, however, was the mixed grill platter. Each skewer was grilled to perfection – the chicken kebabs were juicy and well-marinated, the lamb chops were tender and bursting with flavor, and the kofta kebabs had just the right blend of spices. Every bite showcased the richness of Afghan culinary tradition. The rice dishes deserve their own praise – the kabuli pulao in particular was phenomenal. Fluffy basmati rice layered with sweet carrots and raisins, paired with tender chunks of lamb – a true comfort dish that felt like it was made with love. For dessert, we had the firni, a creamy Afghan rice pudding, subtly flavored with cardamom and garnished with pistachios. It was the perfect way to end our meal. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Whether you’re familiar with Afghan cuisine or trying it for the first time, Bakhtar is a must-visit. It’s a place that combines authenticity, flavor, and heartfelt service in a way that’s hard to find. Highly recommended – I’ll definitely be returning with friends and family!

Great spot for late night takeout Afghan food. I found out that this place is open until 2 am most nights, so that was a pleasant surprise. I got an order of mantoo, bolani, and a combo to go for dinner. The mantoo had great tender dumplings with a tender meat filling. The flavor had a small spice to it, which was unique and tasty for sure. The bolani was very crispy and flavorful. The potato inside was seasoned and cooked to a great consistency. The pastry was a little too greasy for my liking, but I just patted it down with some paper. The combo was huge for the price. 3 large kebabs in total with chicken tikka, lamb Tikka, and beef kofta. The lamb was the winner of the 3. Ultra tender and so much flavor. The chicken was on the drier side, but the large cup of sauce made up for that. As far as beef kofta goes, this was decent. It's hard for me to rate kofta accurately because I prefer tikka. Overall, I was very satisfied with a good meal. I know for sure I'll be coming back for some late night food. Also, I had leftovers, and they reheated very well.

I’ve been having bhaktar for a few years mostly from the Queens, Flushing location which is always 10/10. Unfortunately today i had to order the bhaktar family combo from this Hicksville location which was upsetting… Rice was absolutely terrible with a stench and had an after taste of expired oil. The salad was not washed at all, it was obvious that it was put straight out of the packet into the tray. Lastly, this location has the incorrect prices on their store menu and online menu, In person you will be charged 5-10$ from what’s posted on the menu!! and their response to being confronted about it is “ these menus are old” . I would recommend take your money and go else where or get it from the Flushing location. This location is not even a 4/10, no wonder it’s always empty.

My recent takeout order from this establishment was a letdown from start to finish. What should have been a lamb shank platter arrived as severely thin lamb chops with barely any meat – a substitution that significantly diminished the value of my order. The seasoning was problematic throughout. Both the lamb and rice were overwhelmingly salty, making them practically inedible when combined. Even the bread included in the order was stale and hard. The only saving grace was the salad, which managed to maintain its freshness. For the premium prices they charge, the quality of food is mediocre at best. The kitchen's heavy-handed use of salt, poor substitution choices, and lack of attention to basic elements like fresh bread make this establishment hard to recommend for takeout dining. Save your money and...
