You walk in and it's a beautiful log cabin/ hunting lodge theme. The lighting is very dim. The main thing it seems everyone comes for is the salad bar. I recommend that is what you start with and stick with. The menu is very fancy and has high end dishes... escargots was one appetizer if that helps. The prices are kinda high but if you see what it's for you would understand. My husband got a cheese burger and seasonal veggi which was some kind of yellow ball shapped squash. It was well done (he ordered med-rare) and had no flavor other then the seasoning on the outside. The squash was under steamed and bitter with no seasoning. We ordered the soup of the day and that was not bad. We also had the onion rings which when brought to the table you could clearly see they were burnt. At first I figured it was because it was so dim, that maybe they just look that way, but nope burnt and nothing to dip in but ketchup. Sent that back and even the waiter (the one who brought it to us!!!), when we told them what was wrong, looked at the plate and was "Yup, they are." We didn't want it replaced. I had the salad bar which was not bad. Just watch the lettuce and if you can see the bar watch when the guys come from the kitchen and replenish then grab something. Salad bar had a great selection to make your own tossed salad to your specifications. The breads were delicious. They had a few other different types of salads and I tried a few. Again on the bland side. The Log Jam was recommended by one of the locals we ran across on our adventures and if we called and made a reservation that we would get 20% off our meal. We didn't get the 20% off and when asked about it we were told we had to be at a certain amount. Even with the drinks we were shy by the price of onion rings because I refused to pay for burnt food and was afraid to have them make another, if y'all know what I mean. The servers (we had two) ok. I don't know if one was training the other but one was pleasant at the beginning but it was hard trying to get their attention or find. They blatantly ignore us while finishing up at the table next to ours, after we seen we caught their attention, and walk away and never came back. The other one, no offense, but seemed like they were over tired and just out of it. Overall I wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone. Maybe Friday evenings are a bad time even though when we got there it was pretty empty, but soon filled up. The way the local talked them up I was expecting something much more pleasant and comfortable. We felt rushed to get out even. Which I was more...
Read moreOur best experience ever at a local icon deserving of it's reputation! I have been to the Log Jam many times over the years and have rarely been disappointed but this visit was nearly perfect. We were pleasantly surprised that they found a way to keep their famous salad bar involved in their menu. In addition to offering a choice of garden or Caesar salad, they present a menu of available items still on display on their original bar and then your server makes a trip to the salad bar for you. Very clever! They used a two server system which was very fast, friendly and efficient. The second server, who provided most of the service somehow convinced us she was always smiling even while wearing the obligatory mask. The food was just as good as the great service. My wife and I go to the Log Jam when we are in the mood for seafood and my mouth was already watering as we walked by the lobster tank. Starting at only $37 for a 1.5 pounder, that was an easy choice for me and my wife went with the Diver scallops. Both were exquisitely prepared and absolutely delicious! The lobster came with an extra basket with the traditional cracker, which I really didn't use since they expertly pre-cracked the lobster, and a bib and wet naps. I asked for only the tail, claws and knuckles after steaming and that's exactly what I got. Our only criticism at all, was we would have preferred the mash potatoes on the scallops plate to be in a separate dish, the same as my lobster plate. This would have prevented the scallop sauce from running into the mash (see pictures). One of our favorite wines, Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay was very reasonably priced for a restaurant and was the perfect dinner companion creating a great all American meal of warm California sunshine wine and cold water Maine lobster. This experience put the Log Jam back at the top of our list when we have a hankering for great seafood and service. PS, my wife asked me to remind you that their steaks...
