Our first time in Kingston and saw this on yelp! It’s a cute place but not very spacious if you go during busy times. Do not drink the tap water - it tasted horrible like sewage water. So we ordered a bottle of their aqua panna which tasted like water (nothing amazing just water - at least not like their tap). We also got a diet soda which comes in the tiny 8oz glass bottles; if you get a regular coke they come in the larger glass bottles but for diet it only comes in this small one. We got the arugula salad (9/10) - I don’t usually like fruits in my salads but the apple slices were the perfect touch to lessen the sourness of the vinaigrette - it was a great salad and a good portion for the table with pizza or by itself for one; note it has goat cheese which I love but some may not. The Margherita pizza with pepperoni (10/10) is what I would go to order again for pizza; even without the pepperoni. We also got the Ponte vecchio (7/10) pizza which has no tomato sauce and mostly has ricotta instead - I didn’t really like this as it was very heavy on the bacon and wasn’t as clean tasting as the Margherita and was on the heavy side but for those who love bacon, it may be one to consider. Note that the pizzas are not a usual large size but is more for a single person (it is a little bigger than a usual individual pie size) if this was all they were eating. For a family of 5 where 3 were kids under 11yrs - 2 pies and the salad was just the...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place. It has a sterling reputation in the region. And the proprietor is completely present (perhaps too much) and engaged with his work. No hate there. To wit, that part earns them the second star. But my presumption is we caught them on an off night. The pizza (in our experience) was so unacceptably bad, given what I expected, and given the price point. Don't get me wrong. The cheese is good. The crust is cooked to the exacting standards of a proper Neopolitan Pie. All the ingredients are there. The oven is there. I'm looking at it, smelling it. But the place is shamefully amateurish. ZERO execution. And the service was laughably bad. The pizza is terribly composed. Half of the pie had a double-sized crust, the other half had the cheese spilling off the side. You go to take a bite and the entire thing dives down your throat, crust be damned. So i get an insanely hot dose of cheese and sauce and I'm left with a weirdly bereft piece of bread with denuded sauce after bite one. How many ways can you spell W-A-C-K??? All of this adds up to what we call "NFG"--No Figure-out-what-i-mean-there Good. For what it's worth, the house "misto" salad was solid. That was the best part. But I also could've done that at home. All in all, it felt like a waste of a long drive and 70 bucks. Seriously unimpressed. We won't be going back. I'm more than happy to waste my...
Read moreIf you’ve spent time in the South of Italy and fell in love with that perfectly cooked crust from a wood fired oven with San Marzano tomatoes that Campagnia does better than anybody else topped with the fragrance of Basil, this is your type of place! Since ‘Coming to America lol, I’ve honestly not eaten pizza as much as I have in other parts of the world because the lack of pizza structure and grease factor is a major turnoff, especially when you understand what authentic Italian pizza looks and tastes like! The location is in a gorgeous private entrance off the main road which was somewhat difficult to find (my map skills aren’t amazing) but when you do it’s like stepping into a quaint European courtyard with a charm all on its own. The staff are very friendly which matches the overall experience. I ordered the Margarita which was perfecto! Do get a salad because it’s a great accompaniment to all that dough! The Mediterranea had crisp flavors courtesy of the arugula and really refreshed the palate in preparation for all this incoming flavors. You don’t need any extras on the pizza either, when the quality of the ingredients speak a delicious language all on their own! A must visit if you’re in Rhinebeck and a fan of Italian pizza....
