A Spontaneous Find That Blew Us Away
Tonight we decided on a whim to try 1881 Kitchen Table in Port Chester - neither of us knew much about it, but from the moment we walked in, we knew we’d struck gold. The warm welcome from the bartender and owner Jennifer set the tone for an evening that was equal parts delicious and delightful.
Cocktails: A Show‑Stopper from the Bar
We started with The Blacksmith - a bold, beautifully balanced creation featuring gin, fig, thyme, and orange, my husband had some mezcal delight and then some Sauvignon Blanc wine from Israel . It was delicious!!
Mezze & Sharing Plates: Mediterranean Bliss
The Little Mezze Bowls dazzled; hummus, smoked labneh, beautiful garnishes like pomegranate and pine nuts, served with crisp flatbread. Bold, vibrant flavors with perfect textures paired with the best bread!!!
Fish - Tuna & Hamachi Ceviche: zingy, fresh, just-spicy enough - I even wiped the plate clean!
Pizza - the wood fired Pizza Bianca with mushrooms and cheese was nothing short of spectacular - pillowy, charred crust, earthy mushrooms, melty cheese in perfect harmony. It’s emblematic of the wood-fired masterpieces that define their “Wood & Fire” menu.
Dessert: Halva Ice Cream Extravaganza
The Halva Ice Cream with caramel drizzle and pecan garnish was the grand finale; creamy, nutty, sweet and totally addictive. A brilliant ending that shows their pastry team knows as well as the chefs how to finish a meal with flair.
Atmosphere & Ambiance:
The vibe at 1881 is vibrant and welcoming: an open kitchen dominated by an impressive copper-hooded wood-fired oven, rustic-industrial décor with exposed brick and forged-steel accents, and friendly, attentive service throughout. 1881 Kitchen Table exceeded every expectation. The food dazzled; creative but approachable, full of flavor and craftsmanship. The cocktails hit every note, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement, and the service...
Read moreDelicious. A wonderful experience with a great date night ambiance. The background music is upbeat but we could still talk and hear each other well. We started with the Midnight Summer and Summer Haze cocktails. The Summer Haze was reminiscent of a margarita with raspberry foam, and the Midnight Summer was refreshing with a perfect slice of watermelon. Up next we had the portobello steak, roasted zucchini, and the artichoke pizza. The portobello steak was exceptional with its earthiness and the smokiness of the teriyaki sauce took it over the top. The roasted zucchini had a great char which added a heartiness, contrasting well with the bright tzatziki and herbs. The sauces that accompanied both the portobello steak and the roasted zucchini were so delicious that we ordered a side of flatbread to finish off the plates. The pizza was okay, it was honestly taken up a notch when we drizzled the portobello steak sauce on top. The flatbread side was freshly wood fired on the spot, drizzled with olive oil and flaked with salt. We continued the meal with the tuna yakitori skewer and gnocchi. We definitely over ordered and would recommend the gnocchi over the pizza. The tuna was bright and balanced nicely with the mango spaghetti and ginger yuzu sauce. The gnocchi had a nice warmth and creaminess with the mushrooms. Our waitress, Leanny, was kind and incredibly helpful with guiding our food choices. The staff is attentive yet gave us our space, and our water glasses were never empty. We didn’t have room for dessert but look forward to returning and trying out other menu options and the recommended semolina cake. Happy to have 1881 in the...
Read moreDear Owner/Manager, I am writing to share an experience from Friday evening that left me deeply disappointed, not only as a guest, but as a fellow business owner in the neighborhood. After ordering drinks, appetizers and our meal. My guest and I had just been served our dessert and cappuccinos they had not yet been finished when a member of your staff approached our table and asked that we vacate it to accommodate other guests. We were still actively dining, enjoying our conversation, and very much in the midst of our experience. Being interrupted and asked to leave at that moment was both surprising and discourteous. We were directed to the bar where seating was unavailable, leaving us to stand and wait without drinks.. No apology was offered, nor was there any gesture of hospitality to acknowledge the inconvenience or embarrassment caused. For an establishment that prides itself on service and atmosphere, this interaction felt abrupt, dismissive, and entirely inconsistent with those values. I have supported your restaurant often personally and professionally and have brought clients and colleagues here because I believed in the quality of your service. That is why this experience was not only disappointing, but disheartening. Hospitality is not simply about the food served, but about how guests are treated while they are under your care. To be asked to leave while still being served dessert reflects a disregard for that principle. I hope you will take this matter seriously and address how situations like this are handled in the future. I would...
