Hidden Fish, while not an authentic or traditional Japanese sushi spot, is the perfect sushi restaurant for Skaneateles. The upscale yet laid-back atmosphere combined with delicious food make it a wonderful addition to the village’s culinary scene.
As a native of this area, I was a bit skeptical of the fish quality and variety when I first visited Hidden Fish. This skepticism has been cast aside as the food here is as fresh and delicious as any big-city destination. Though the menu is non-traditional, the creatively-crafted rolls set Hidden Fish apart in the sushi world, and in a great way. I’d encourage visitors to dine in a larger group in order to taste many of Hidden Fish’s offerings. Everything I tried was delicious, with each dish offering a unique flavor combination that I haven’t seen elsewhere. While traditional dishes such as sashimi, nigiri and many appetizers were delicious, I recommend the more unique rolls as they combine the freshness of traditional with the culinary creativity of a talented chef.
My one complaint would be the drink menu. I am a fairly basic drinker, typically sticking to whiskey and beer. Most cocktails here were very elaborate which overwhelmed me, and the “fortune teller” really pushed me over the edge.

Read moreAmazing date night dinner. Arrived at 6:15 for a reservation. We were quickly seated and warmly greeted by our server. Started off with some apps and small bottle of cold sake. Karaage chicken and vegetable tempura came out hot, perfectly seasoned, crispy and delicious. The yuzu mayo was a perfect sauce for the chicken. We were in no rush and ordered some nigiri next. All the fish is clearly top notch and warm sushi rice is next level. This does not taste like your standard go-to sushi rice. Each grain is like a pearl and not over seasoned with vinegar. The chef knows not to over compact the rice for nigiri leaving light and airy. So good. We shared a Tara roll and it was amazing as well. So nice to have actual real crab and not imitation crab sticks. We shared another bottle of sake and friends of ours sitting next to us let us try their Dassai blue sake made in Hudson valley, soo good. Making a note to get a bottle of that next visit. We had the taiyaki for dessert, delicious pancakes in the shape of fish with a warm Nutella filling. Amazing way to end our meal. Service was top notch, attentive and left us wanting for nothing. I regret not remembering the young lady whom waited on us but we really enjoyed her and she made for us a special evening. Will definitely be back and...
Read moreOk, where to begin. Upon arrival, we were a few minutes early after we finally found the place that is and we had to wait in the hallway. There was no place to sit, and with a bad back, that wasn't fun. After we were seated, we received a glass of water, and then the downfall began. It took a very long time to get a drink and food. We ordered a red wine we received a white wine. We ordered soup and appetizers and received the soup after the main courses came. Minus the sashimi we never received. The food we did receive was excellent, though. Our waitress seemed to be a bit lost, which to us did not make sense since there were at least 5 servers for maybe 12 tables. We would have stayed a lot longer and spent a lot more money if the service and the atmosphere were a lot better. We had a hard time even getting water. After we finished we asked for the check and asked that we not be charged for something we did not receive which also triggered us to look at the receipt which we found we were charged extra for liquor we never even asked for. We pointed that out, and the waitress apologized and removed it. But I'm sorry if we didn't ask they shouldn't assume. Also, in 1 of the bathrooms, the toilet was already broken and wouldn't flush. We will not return for a...
