Ive waited about three weeks to address this.... but cant get it out of my head and get upset whenever i think about it. So here goes...
(NEW) PARENTS BEWARE! The food and service is phenomenal, and I do genuinely mean that as someone who gets glutened regularly at other places, Steve's has never done that to me in 8 months as a customer....
but should you find yourself needing to change a diaper while there, your options will be to do so on the table you're eating at -or- on a dirty public bathroom floor.
For a place that is packed wall to wall all day long on Saturday and Sunday, many of the tables families with children under 2- I was appalled when, while waiting for a table, I needed to make the choice to change my son on a dirty public toilet floor or go to my car in the pouring rain....we haven't been back since and if im honest I don't intend to. It was beyond upsetting to, even with a changing Matt, to have to change my son on a cold Dirty floor, while he sobbed from the cold.
Being a parent in public is hard enough and in chain stores, but i genuinely expected more from a local -family- restaurant. I've never had a bad service experience experience at Steve's and don't want to pretend that was the issue. They are great- but to not have a changing table, even just in the ladies room, that mind you is large enough to accommodate multiple standing tables and doesn't even have one hanging on the wall....in a place that's wall to wall families with kids? Requested veggie omelette made dairy free (without butter or cheese) as I am breastfeeding and my baby doesn’t tolerate dairy — was told the chefs won’t make an omelette without putting butter down first (no cooking spray?) Ordered the “vegan pancake” instead but am still worried they made it on a buttered grill. My mom asked for almond milk or a milk substitute with her oatmeal and was told they don’t have that — saw two cartons of silk almond milk in fridge when walking to restroom. Had to change our newborn and my husband came back from the bathroom saying that there was no changing table in the Men’s room. I took the baby to the women’s restroom but there were not any there either. My husband had to take our son to the car in the middle of breakfast to change him. Only two high chairs available for entire place and several families who could have used them. 20-30 min wait to get in when we went (Sunday 10 am) and there was a long line of people standing inside and outside the entire time we were there.
The menu is extensive and the staff was very pleasant — just wish they were more “family friendly” and were willing to better accommodate...
Read moreI’ve been to the Fairport a few years back and it was good at the time. Two friends and I figured we’d check out the Victor location for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were waiting on one of our friends at 10am but were told we could not seat until she arrived. We were surprised and asked why couldn’t be seated as we’re planning on ordering coffee while we waited and definitely getting breakfast, etc. for all. We were hoping we got a table that at least fit 2-3 that we would have originally received with or without our 3rd friend attending. The owner was surprisingly very rude but reluctantly seated us, gave us coffee and slammed our cups of water on the table. Our friend showed up at 10:02 but at this point we were kinda dumbfounded and upset, and I felt uncomfortable with him handling our food so we got up and left. I just couldn’t believe how angry and loud he dealt with us with other customers around. I’ve seen plenty of other negative reviews about the owner right before posting mine and it made me feel like maybe we weren’t wrong about...
