The review left by another user (complaining about some containers) does not accurately reflect everyone's experience at Pastel, nor should it influence anyone else. She, in my humble opinion, is the reason why members of the restaurant and service industries choose to quit their jobs, especially because of poor attitudes from customers like hers! Anyway, be kind to your small local businesses.
Back to my own experience, it was my first time visiting the cookie shop, and I was quite enchanted by the entire experience. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the wonderful scent of freshly baked cookies, and even more charming was the sound of the bakers in the back mixing the dough. That's when you know the cookies really are freshly baked! The store was beautifully laid out. I felt transported to a mini-whimsical shop like the ones you find in Paris or somewhere.
Nobody in their right mind should complain about paying for these VERY premium cookies, especially if they are each about the size of your face (believe me, these cookies are HUGE)! They are very big and PACKED with FLAVOR.
I tried all the cookies available on the counter and GLADLY paid nearly $180 for about 4 dozen cookies.
These are not your cheap ol' Walmart or Entenmanns cookies. You can expect GOURMET cookies which are apparently made fresh every day.
Lesson to all of you, coming from someone who is newly retired but has been doing travel reviews of restaurants, hotels, and other shops around the country: SET your expectations accordingly, and support your local businesses. This is where the really good stuff comes from.
Next time I come up to the Finger Lakes, I will DEFINITELY come back to Pastel and try to buy as much as I...
Read moreThis past Saturday evening I stopped in and picked up a half dozen cookies and they are by far the best cookies I have found in the area. I was expecting to walk in and find a limited selection of cookies left since it was later in the day and to my surprise I found a great selection and was able to get a variety of cookies to sample. I also must add that the owner, Jim, was very friendly and we had a good conversation about his business and what he plans to do in the new larger location. If you have not already, I highly recommend stopping in and trying their cookies. I will definitely be back and will be sure to share my experience with anyone looking for a great place to pick up some fresh...
Read moreLong time customer to the previous name this cookie company had. I paid $41.50 for a dozen cookies. Also, presentation is everything (since they were a gift) they were going to be placed in a plastic to go container like you get for food. I asked if they had the white box instead, she said oh those are to expensive we have brown now. No nice ribbon around the box either. Needless to say I won’t travel the distance for cookies that are that expensive and can’t even be presented nicely anymore. They are delicious...
