Learn moreI think I see kind of a pattern with the quality of poultry dish around Buffalo area, because, and to get a negative be done with, their chicken dishes mostly had a bit of that overcooked fibrous/woody texture. It was not inedible by any means, no. Still, that texture was there. It kind of went same for a few of their pork dishes, as well, although I personally did not try all of them.
I liked their Hong Kong(or Beijing... I can't quite remember exact name) Chicken very much, but not their pineapple chicken. The latter had very noticeable dried texture and flavor because of its individual chicken meat's size while as the former was noticeably smaller with its individual chicken meat, so its sauce pleasantly made up for the sub-par quality meat.
I liked their egg-drop soup, especially with chopped up scallions added, which was pleasantly fresh enough; those things can be nasty if they aren't fresh and gets all mushy. Their sushi bar was decent, but they had few of actual sushi; instead, I tried their rolls which were good enough. Certainly not bad, but nothing to write home about.
Now, I tried their fried dumplings, and... it wasn't very... pleasant? I think I just have too much of high standard for dumplings but theirs was weirdly unpleasant. The fillings were quite... packed together... like all the ingredients for that filling were made into a paste. Very much processed... I mean, those certainly didn't have any juice left in them for sure. Tastewise... it was surprisingly bland to me. I mean, again, there was just no juice when I bit into it, so bland is the right word.
The price was very good. The restaurant was clean and nice. I went there during their lunch-hour, and it was not packed. Good enough...
Read moreWe recently dined at this Asian buffet and were deeply disappointed with the experience. The first thing we noticed upon entering was how unclean the establishment was. The floors were sticky, the seating was in a state of disrepair, and the booths had visible tears covered with black tape as a makeshift fix. The tables were equally unkempt, feeling sticky to the touch, which set an unpleasant tone before the meal even began. The buffet itself was no better. The selection was sparse, and most of the dishes looked like they had been sitting out for far too long. The food was tasteless and poorly prepared, with minimal seasoning or effort to create appealing flavors. Even staple items like fried rice and lo mein lacked freshness and texture. Many of the trays were nearly empty, and when food was replenished, it was clear they were using low-quality ingredients. The sushi was poorly rolled and barely edible, while the hot dishes were either overcooked or lukewarm at best. Even the fountain drinks were disappointing, tasting like watered-down chemicals rather than soda, leaving us questioning the cleanliness of the beverage machines. What made this experience even more frustrating was that we chose this restaurant based on its 4.1 rating. We honestly cannot understand how it earned such a score. Based on our visit, it deserves no more than a 1 out of 5 in every category, from cleanliness to food quality and overall service. Ultimately, we couldn’t even finish our plates due to the poor quality and lack of flavor. Despite this, we paid the full bill and left feeling like we’d wasted both our time and money. We do not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a decent dining experience—it’s...
Read moreNote: This is 5 stars when considering Chinese Buffet/ Takeout type places and keeping the... peculiarities of these sorts of places in mind. If the idea of buffets skeeze you, I recommend doing takeout. What I'm saying is you know what you're getting into.
With that said, this is the ONLY area Chinese Buffet I'll eat at. My mom LOVES this place and often goes by herself and I tag along on occasion or she'll get me takeout. For a buffet, this place is quite clean and the turnover on food is well-maintained. Staff is always polite and considerate on the front end (have had a few weird experiences with kitchen staff who are rude who will literally mow you over and yell at you) This place has a decent reputation which means there are always people there meaning the food is regularly replaced and tended to (though I've seen that not affect other area places)
They are great with their buffet takeout too, something I used to do for my mom before pandemic. I've been to other places who when you reach counter will open your containiers and pick through your food to make sure you're not hiding seafood (if a place is that worried about that then maybe you shouldn't offer buffet takeout) or abruptly change prices or charge certain items ala carte with no explanation. Friendly's prices are up front and they don't make a big deal when it comes to weighing.
With Covid, they are offering these combo meals on top of their usual menu that includes a meat, fried rice, lo mein, and beans which is a nice variety without having to order a ton of menu items when you only want a small portion. Glad to see they're adapting and staying relatively busy in...
